Growing up with 56k speed internet most porn sites were only image hosters and DVD retailers that wanted to get you to agree to a subscription, or that would have you use a very expensive dialup connection in order to scam you out of hard-earned shekels.
In the age of social media and widespread online forums, free porn streaming sites and torrents, I am wondering whether this changed the mindset of at least some web hosts, and led to porn sites that combine the moderateability of sign-up forums with upsides of free streaming sites, relying on advertisements and/or optional donations for their financing. Basically pornhub with mandatory but free user accounts.

nice selection of pics. dunno, i've never been interested in paysites. i understand that they need to make money, and on porn sites you usually advertise for, uh, porn? so purely add based won't work, for somewhere someone must slot in those credit card details and transfer some actual money?

I understand that, but seeing how Pornhub seems to be mostly financed through ads from regular paysites etc (and they're one of the largest porn sites, and you can't even use it with an adblocker) I can't help but think that there must be other sites that have a similar business model, except with mandatory signups if you want to download videos.
Or look at 4chan, we display ads for online retailers. Would be another option.

Pornhub is owned by Mind Geek. Look at the wiki and see what paysites and tubesites are under their umbrella.
Most of the money comes from cams and dating (both of which MindGeek also have). A small minority of users also pay a lot of money for pay content.
Most users pay zero or close to it.
So basically the same as freemium games, etc.
It seems like I cant go to a free streaming site nowadays without getting the inevitable pop up for some camshow site, and we all know how much money those things bring down. so Iwould assume they make the majority of their money through partnerships with companies such as these? also, whats the name of that chick in your first post? I remember when browsing porn meant going on skeevy picture sites, or taking a leap of faith downloading from limewire, never knowing if you were going to get a virus. Lately, porn browsing has become so much safer with the invention of tube sites. All the big name porn sites even have 1080p quality porn. So someone like me who uses a 32 inch plasma as my monitor, its the best way to watch porn. Crystal clear quality at 30+ frames. Porn has come a long way in the past 12 years since i started watching it. Good porn is accessible to everyone, and you dont have to worry about viruses on big name sites. These big tube sites offer so much great free stuff, that paying for them isnt even necessary. Now a site like bangbros for example, thats where the best of the best is. But theyre stingy with what content they let out so you bnever really know if its worth it to pay. Ive been wanting to get a month membership at bangbros because there is some ava hardy material i desperately want, but giving a pornsite my info is sketchy. I did it once before and it was a mess, but luckily it was easy enough to clean up.
