Re-read FRLG/ORAS.
Red did all his stupidity because he was visibly upset that Blue (the chick) was beaten to near death. Learned the ultimate technique for her sake.
Then when he got defeated by Deoxys, she was the one who ran instinctively to him while Green (the guy, Gary dude) was like " w/e idgaf, he's useless anyways". Then the two have this nice emotional chat and how she will fight even though she isn't fully healed.
Then Red comes back with Lorelei saying that he came back saying "I want to go with you, I have to see this through to the end. When I realized that, I knew I had to come back".
Then ORAS happened and Red calls Blue back and the two nerds have basically wedding rings that turn their Pokemon into their mega evolved forms.
Then they get defeated by Primal Groudon/Kyogre and Red wakes up staring at Blue's chest, while she's trying to wake him up.
Canonically, she's ambigiously open to anyone. Except Green. Guy's an asshole and there's no canon material that they even like each other. Just ignorant newer fans pairing them up since everyone pairs up Red with Yellow when canonically, he had feeling for Misty and he found Blue attractive, hence why he always blushes at her early in the manga. Still does it in ORAS.
