The adult market will not take VR seriously if the VR market is not significant.
Right now the concurrent issue of VR is not how the VR could reach its potential,
but how VR failed to penetrate the market.
The concept of duct-taping Microsoft's Kinect with a built-in 6 inches monitor on your face is not going to worth 900 dollars.
And unless they managed to come up with a plan to popularize VR, we will not see the adult industry utilizing this next-generation tool.

There's a handful of hentai MMD videos out there, and a few "joke" videos of Miku sucking on a banana or whatever. It's less immersive than playing a game or messing around in MocuMocuDance on Oculus, but I think MMD hentai is easily the best way to get Japan more interested in VR porn. Joke about Japan and flip phones all you want, but Japan and high-end gaming PCs is even worse.

You're wrong anon. Just look a KISS, they already started experimenting with VR and DLsite is making some kind of VR waifu game.
VR is a perfect platform for that kind of games and they know it, otakus are also the most likely to spend loads of money buy VR.
Since only 3D can really work in VR, it'll most likely revolve around Illusion and KISS as well as the amateur developpers making short POV movies/games.
VR is already popular, so popular that they can't even keep up with producing and shipping new units for all the people interested in it. And in a few years it'll become cheaper and the niche will in turn become larger.
Really, seeing how well it's doing right now, if they keep the same momentum for a few years then they have nothing to fear.
