How do I achieve the distorted text effect used in "Boys Noize" in Illustrator? Would a use the envelope distort tool?

Thanks. Mesh grid seems to be the best tool so far.
I have trouble with powerstrokes in Inkscape 0.92.
I seem to be unable to make the strokes with zero width actually end in zero width. No matter which option I try, it's always a square.
I also lack the CubicBezierJohan interpolator which many people in videotutorials seem to have.
I would really like some help on this, it's driving me crazy.

That's actually just the way that font looks, you should google it it's called liquido, it's free
