The thread for /flag/gots
>tfw when the cities in my area all have absolutely terrible flag designs
>one was voted one of the top places to live in America for multiple years, still can't get past a generic clipart flag with words everywhere
>know that none of them will ever change because they see absolutely nothing wrong with it
>>268736
HELL YEAH, i got a whole folder dedicated to it

Been working on a project of converting famous albums to flags. See if you can guess them/tell me how awful these flags are.
Another easy one
A little tougher
Not sure if this one is hard or not
Either you know it or you don't. Colors are a little weak for an actual flag.

Best country flag ever.
best flag desu
Flag of a Japanese conquered asia
>>268863
I think it's Swans but it looks like a pokeball
>>269072
if Japan conquered Asia they would use their flag.
If Japan united Asia they would use your flag.
I've been looking for an in to introduce a concept for my neighborhood in MPLS. This is a proposal I've been preparing for my pitch. Any thoughts?
>>269138
Nope, released in early 70s
>>269242
The flag is pretty cool, I'd make the blue bigger if I were you, but using it as a coa is a pretty bad idea.
>>269242
Flag's cool, presentation is horrendous.
>>269242
>A field of green with a single vertical stripe in the middle, with a single star in the upper-right corner
>Not "Vert a pale azur, in chief a mullet argent"
>>269294
>using heraldric language on flag
>>268811
roman mars is the shit desu
>>269277
Thanks! I'll drop the COA.
My initial concept of including that was looking at flags like Amsterdam's, which is basically it's COA tipped on the side.
>>269280
Thank you too! What about the presentation isn't jiving with you specifically? What would you recommend to fix it?
>>269294
I barely comprehend COA verbiage. But I'll keep that in mind for later if necessary. I used plain english for the benefit of neighborhood councils who (probably) won't understand "vert a pale azur, in chief a mullet argent."
>>269374
Oh fuck yeah.
Underrated
>>269242
The green and blue so tightly upon each other looks horrible. Try to solve it in another way. It reminds me of the terrible moroccan flag.

River Gee County, Liberia
>>269783
give them their own country and this is what they do
>>269783
>>269814
I prefer this one

When you go go export, be sure you unchecked the transparency box.
>>268811
Well /gd/?
Why don't YOU redesign the San Francisco flag?
>>270028
because it's already been redesigned
>>270028
Honestly, the redesign that Roman showed in that TED Talk was pretty awesome.
>>270032
it wasn't.
>>270030
You're joking but i mean at least including that in some way is not the worst idea.
>>270035
like this or something?
>>270034
Eh, opinion. Let's see your idea to fix it.
>>270043
>>270028
it looks like the TED talk fags are here
>>270016
it's not mine baby
>>268811
This is my cities flag, not quite as bad as Milwaukee's but god damn is it shit.
>>268739
I'll see your Chicago and raise you an Indianapolis.
I've always hated but loved my state flag its simple but the inside is too cluttered
>>270229
There should be some kind of mandate to fix state flags.
>>268864
I was literally listening to it
there are cool designs here: http://flagsfrompossible.tumblr.com/
>>270028
>>270756
Fair play. It's very reminiscent of Arizona's state flag, but I like the wheel of whale heads.
>>270229
Speaking of Florida, I'm actually surprised with Orlando's flag.
I've never seen this thing in the 13 years I've lived here.
Also saw the Ted and looked for my city flag. Almost good, if only the crest was taken out
>>270229
Same here man. A while ago I did do a lazy redesign when I was board.
I did break the metal on metal rule a lot though; but the "five flags" sun rays where too tempting.
Thoughts?
>>270898
Does metal-on-metal apply to flags? I know that's a no-no in heraldry, but flags aren't necessarily enforced with those same rules...
>>268739
Iss chi raq n ah luv dat

>>271081

>>271015
rules are not meant to be followed 100%, they are just a guideline
>>268811
Needs the Wheel of the Worst somewhere.
>>269393
not the op but you could make it a few landscape pages, have one with each mark on big with functional type for concept or just put it on another page. grid up etc.
Hello guys. This seems to be the perfect thread to ask this question.
Without taking into account the ideologies and history that these flags stood for, which one according to you guys is the most Aesthetically pleasing between the old and the new South African flag?
>>271600
The modern one.
The old South Africa flag was so many flags within other flags within a flag that it was ridiculous.
>>271600
Current one.
>>271600
Old one as it incorporates the history of the nation by including the 3 flags.
New one is merely a fabrication without anything to it tbqh
>>271609
It has been done on other flags though
>>271616
The meaning behind the 'Y' design is basically to show how South Africans used to live apart but came together as one nation. Or at least that's what they wanted to convey with the design. I can't give an opinion to which one I like more as mine is biased in this regard.
>>271600
I like the orange, white, and blue combination. But the small flags looks and wouldn't scale well (think pins or printed on letterheads.)
Bottom one has a few too many colors for me, but is certainly better.
>>270094
a shit flag for a shit city, you settler-elitist fucks
>>271600
The old one is trash, no flag should have another flag in it.
New flag without history honestly isn't that great, but is still better than the old garbage. With history I actually think the flag is great. Love the red/white/blue for the U.K. / Netherlands and green/black/yellow for Africa.

Looks like someone is a little mad that they don't live in Radalaide.
