Go back to paper and sketch it. You need to treat it like a 3D character. Start with a sphere then add on.

The hat looks out of perspective and wonky on the head, the right eye looks too big, the thumb is all fucked up, and the bottom part of the mouth is too vertical.
Your sketch looks more interesting than the digital version - you lost something along the way.
I'd try redrawing your character a few more times. Look at similar character designs. And get rid of the preset illustrator patterns/brushes that make it look like you did this in 5 minutes - it cheapens the whole thing.

If you're gonna be derivative, at least a) be derivative of a good style, b) make sure it hasn't been done to death first, and c) make sure you have the technical skills to make it not suck ass.
