PORT
>>
You have 10 seconds to name two situations where you would need more than one USB port

Note that "USB stick and charging" isn't a valid answer, because you can just stop charging and plug in the stick, then take it out and charge again.
>>
Reminder that USB 3.0 is why laptops aren't getting thinner

Shit screen, mediocre battery life with the said shit screen, huge brick, hardcore throttling and crazy heat, etc, etc etc. Maybe it was okay when it was released but for todays standard it's shit.

Let me quote other stuff:

Another problem, even with the $80 adapter you still have no place to plug in audio for a DI if the presenter has a video in their presentation. It would give up too much of functionality since it's much slower to use, specially on a laptop because you're not holding it like a tablet. It's kay to stop/play videos, nothing more.

>>54376382
>"HA, USING MORE THAN ONE USB PORT? WHAT ARE YOU, A CAVEMAN? IT'S 2016!!! I CANT BELIEVE YOU'RE USING A BAJILLION USB PORTS!!"
Consider the fucking device in question. A premium ultraportable laptop. It's not meant to replace your desktop with 5 different ports, drives or whatever else shit you choose to use. It's not meant to replace your "mobile" workstation.
Also given the price points, it's clearly not for people who still use printers without wifi or want to tether over USB.

It's a device for people who travel a lot and DON'T want to deal with silly shit like cables or usb drives. There is no reason for it to have any more ports. The only downside is that you can't connect it to a screen without adapter but how many hotels offer good enough screens without airplay in the first place?

The point is that the idea is flawed within its price range.

For casual users that will just use it to browse the internet the one port is sufficient.
However, those same casual users probably aren't going to drop $1k on a laptop to do it, i.e. it's priced out of its niche.

The people who ARE going to drop $1k on a laptop are going to want more than one port, hence the rampant autism on /g/.

It's sufficient for Office, coding and CS too, you don't need ports for that either.

What for? Another port would offer me absolutely no benefits just an empty hole. The last thing I plugged into a laptop was a mouse because Windows isn't into trackpads.

There are plenty of people (like me) who carry around a USB drive on a keyring because we often have to do work on multiple computers. Anyone needing a modicum of productivity needs at LEAST 1 USB port.

>Obviously it has a smaller target audience than Retina Air would have or rMBP has but it's perfect for the people who wanted the most portable laptop possible.
By what standard is it more portable than the above Asus laptop? It's not smaller, lighter, or more functional, in fact it's LESS functional.

I see you've never been in a place where you can't reach Wifi but you still need your computer to be less than 15mm in size so you can carry it everywhere!

You sure care about portability on a device you seem to only have at home. And whether or not you personally use a feature doesn't mean it's suddenly better for everybody to get rid of it. (And also get no thinner because of it, as a previous poster mentioned the UX305 has three USB ports and is 12.3mm for whatever the reason you might want to start trimming off features to save space.)

>>54376528
Yeah but giving up functionality sounds like what's happening in exchange for making the laptop... what exactly? Slightly smaller is the only argument I've seen and it doesn't seem to hold any weight.

Do "people" not want to "deal with SILLY cables" or do YOU not want to deal with cables? Where's this neat little focus group report that says people won't ever use more than USB port on their Macbooks? As I just said there's still no pro to having ONE USB port instead of two.

>>54376602
What the fuck is this half argument?
I guess people on /g/ are too tech illiterate to realize 2 USB ports is less than 1 USB port, oops!
Or maybe you thought Apple had to make some tough financial decisions on whether or not their Macbook had Wifi or if it had a 2nd USB port and they made the right choice. "Thank god my laptop doesn't have 40 USB ports and no Wifi or Bluetooth, that's what every non-Apple computer is like!"

>>
>>54373790
>apple doesn't need to care about your edge case scenario
I don't recall apple being known for ever caring about anything consumers ever said in the history of forever.

>god forbid 4 USB ports in a laptop
It is a well know fact that the more features you remove from a laptop the happier people are and the more you can charge because less is more.

When you go into work tomorrow just grab a coffee, sit at your boss' desk, wank over his keyboard and leave for home within 30mins, but don't forget to collect your salary and bonus on the way out. You deserve it.
Fun fact: that's the average apple engineer's work day.
