He makes a lot of points that I think might echo how you feel (how I feel, at the very least). im finally buying a smartphone and i notice all the providers list the version as if its locked and thus will be dated/less options, but then i see other sites saying you can simply go to the about screen and update the versions simlar to linux distro updates

How are people this uninformed about pricing of cellular plans? Do people really not know about prepaid plans that cost anywhere from $20-$40 for unlimited talk, text, and data (although data is usually on a speed cap after 2-5GB).
Stop searching for plans on big names like Verizon and AT&T and check out service quality of T-Mobile or Cricket (which uses AT&T towers) in your area, if they have good service you're looking at cheap $30/month prepaid plans and you can use any unlocked smartphone on them because gsm sim card master race.
Cricket can be as cheap as $20 a month, great overall coverage, capped data speeds at 10 Mbps (plenty for anything really)
T-Mobile can be as cheap as $30 a month, their LTE is fast as shit (50-60 Mbps down in many areas), go for them if its got good service in your area.
Seriously get with the fucking times and do some god damn research. Expensive 2 year contracts and cdmaids are for retards, don't get scammed into that shit.
