I tried on a shirt the other day. It fit fine everywhere except it looked like the buttons were going to burst around my chest.
I got an Under Armour jacket and that ridiculously tight as well.
For me it's my shoulders, have to buy giant shirts for work and they're so lose around my mid section

Is this why I have always had this issue ? I dressed like a skater growing up and my friends would look cool in bigger shirts and it seemed to fit better on them, my sleeves always angled out and didn't have the same look

That's because it's a shit quality photo of just his upper body where you can't really compare his height to any surrounding objects.
Even if you were 7', it'd be easy to make you look like a manlet in certain conditions.
