Just got a membership to LA fitness and want to look presentable in a public gym, used a shitty home gym before.

If you aren't lifting in Lulu lemon gear you're never gonna get noticed. Chicks are into that kind of stuff.
I really like the quality of Under Armour. Nike, Adidas, Reebok and Puma make decent gear, too. PROTIP: You can wear shitty t-shirts to the gym.
