Damn son I just got two with ninety pounds added and was feeling pretty proud of myself. I have the most difficulty at the very start when you have to rotate your shoulder forward from the dead hang.
Do you dead hang?
My arms are quite long and I'm tempted to not do full dead hangs for my +45 pull ups.


Also pronated grip is the only grip that counts.

Yeah man, It took me a while to get up there. The initial start is by far the hardest. I don't do pronated grip until the end. I actually pull from a thumbless grip, it really lets me yank from my Lats, and that's harder to do from pronated. Sorry bae :(

I weigh around 225 lbs, i cant do a pullup

I do lat pulldowns for 140 lbs for 8 right now

I was wondering, at about what weight on pulldowns will I start being able to do pullups? Is it just bodyweight? Cos with pushups ofc it's easier than bodyweight bench.

I had to work out for like a year before I could even do one pullup m8, it's not just your weight you have to build up the strength over time in your back/lats, biceps. Now I do about 12

Because of how weak I am I haven't tried weighted yet.

Weighted drop sets. Hold a dumbbell between your feet, do 4 reps then drop it and do 4 more. Do all your sets this way. Next time do 5 weighted reps and 3 unweighted and so on until you're doing all 8 weighted. Then up the weight and start again.

Strictest form, chin over bar or chest to bar, hold, controlled descent back to a dead hang each time. No half reps you pussy.

Namely weight loss + slow progression.
You can use resistance bands or if you have a buddy into pullups ask him to lift your legs up at the ankle behind your body.
It's extremely slow as you're using stabilizer muscles in your body that are probably not use to 200+ lbs of weight.
Even if your primary muscles can take it, odds are you'll start shaking and be unable to hold your grip.
I spent months working on it with a door hanging bar, every chance I could I did pullups and chinups.
Once you get it right, you just need to make sure every lifting day you do them.
