What is /fit/'s opinion on personal trainers? I've never been to a gym in my life and I want to just pay someone to hold my hand, build a routine, and watch my posture, etc.

professional bro scientists

Then hire one. It's a waste of money but they will show you how to use the equipment (kinda) so it will be less awkward.
>>
If you just want to get fit and are not training for any specialist activity. you can get all the knowledge you need by reading online.
>>
>>37644224
Is she going to wipe her ass or is that supposed to be our job? Seriously wtf is this some fetish?
>>
>>37644224
buy starting strength and film yourself with your smartphone...simple as that
>>
>>37644224
mr rippetoe is the only PT i need
>>
>>37644224
All of these people are going to say they are shit but if you can afford a good one then I would say go for it.
>>
>>37644253
Yeah but this would skip the part where I continually fuck up.
>>
>>37644224
Waste of money. They will work you until you're sore because that's what you pay for. They'll make you sweat for no other reason than you think you're working hard, but the end result is you've just done a jumble of "things" with no real sense of progression.
>>
a PT's job is to make you come back the next day..

that being said, if you're horribly unmotivated, aka most people, they're a good resource

Sounds lame. I'm not really looking for someone to be a drill instructor for motivation but to teach me about shit I don't know about so I don't fuck up my back or something.

Guess I'll do local research.
>>
>>37644230
Litteraly this
>>
>>37644224
The PT will help your gym anxiety. If you are a skinny faggot or a land whale, you will be nervous as fuck the first time you go to the gym. Having a big, strong guy to guide you around is definitely beneficial.
>>
>>37644583
If you do search around, be very up front with what you want to learn and if they are unwilling to teach that or if after a session they didn't do a good job, ditch them.

It can take a while to learn how to squat properly if you have motor skills of a retard, especially with a teacher that is anything less than excellent.
>>
>>37644629

Or deal with your problems directly and not wasting money on a dickhead who doesnt know what he is doing?

if any of you sheletered disabled retards ever got a personal trainers leave this board NOW
>>
>>37644224
Definitely worth paying someone to make sure you don't fuck up your deadlifts. Also start practicing third-world squats.
>>
>>37644685

most PT'S don't know correct DL form
>>
Bumping this because it's relevant to my interests.

I know there's a lot of broscientists working as personal trainers out there, but what do you think about the PTs who work solo? You know the ones who will meet their clients face to face privately and follow every aspect of their workout?

There's a guy who does this kind of personal training, he will basically shadow your workout for 3 months as well as dieting, make a personalised routine, track your progress etc. He is in his 50s and judging by his looks he definitely knows his shit. Not some random 20yr old "fitness enthusiast" who is working a summer job at the gym, this guy is a professional.

Some of you may say this is a spoon-feeding mentality but truth be told we always learn better when taught by a professional instead of reading internet articles.
>>
Waste of money
>>
>>37644224
Some are better than others. There's also a fucktillion of them, so there's that. Just give it a spin.
>>
I went with a guy on my starting month, mostly because my parents were concerned I would injure myself, kek.
Waste of money to be honest, I got a lot more info online than with the guy, he didn't really correct much of my posture past telling me to keep a tight core and showing me proper form a bit.
>>
Absolute retards. Asked a personal trainer who was looking for clients how to break my 2pl8 plateau on squats and he told me that the smith is superior for squats.
>>
>>37646883
What was his logic?
>>
you have to understand that to most people working out does not look not as easy as it actually is. People are presented with 10000 different "what works and what doesn't" advertisements and anecdotes from friends/family. they go to the gym and see 50 people doing 50 different things, it's overwhelming to try to understand where to start. Personal trainers can show you a structured routine and that's what you pay for. People don't realize how easy it really is to go to the gym, do 5 sets of 5-6 compound exercises, and go home after 45 minutes
>>
get one that is at the least NSCA CSCS or ACSM qualified.
>>
>>37647027
One of the things that the /fit/ sticky helped me realize way back when is that for most things in life the best path to success is way simpler than our fucking retarded ADD society makes it out to be.
>>
>>37647105
but there's soooo much money in telling people the new way to find happiness! never do THIS exercise again, eat this food and never diet again!

It's sort of why I just want to retreat to the mountains and live out a hermitic life. The worthless background noise of society is so hard to deal with. It's like someone screaming in your face 8 hours a day. I don't know if it's gotten worse over the last decade or I've just become more sensitive to it.

Sorry, this isnt worth its own thread.

How do i get a tush like that?
>>
>>37647205
it's gotten really bad because the internet has become extremely participatory. every site has a comment section, everybody has a twitter or facebook post for every major event. it's a mess. Part of me wants to unplug but I know it's only a matter of time before I would get bored and log back on. The FOMO is too real.

>>
>>37647353
Not trans, just a wannabe boipussy. I tried tho.

Also yeah thats a great plan.
>>
>>37647353
Just realized you said gas urself and not kill urself. Its a little sad that i can say ive actually tried that
>>
>>37647353
>should i just eat more and see where the weight accumulates
Pretty much the only way.
If you fail you'll have to diet, kek.
The other option is to go for the "tight butt" mode by working out the muscles for some months/years.

k thx homebro
i'll post pics when i get dat ass
>>
>>37644224
no. personal trainers have no idea what they're talking about. They are their to keep you hooked on the gym, not to make you strong and progress. There is a huge difference.
>>
>>37647472
Protip, chlorine gas isnt fatal in homemade concentrations, unless you huff it. And thats really difficult considering immediate damage
>>

k
next time put more effort, maybe you'll succeed, fucking fag
>>
>>37647508
Well i am a faggot. Clearly i cant do anything right.

>>37647500
But how pretty were the crystals?
>>
>>37644224
If you can afford a good one do it 100%. Most people will learn exercises wrong if they try to do it themselves,
>>
>>37647533
Crystals did in fact form, due to the container being previously used for crystalization of various minerals, and being that it was a suicide attempt i didnt bother cleaning it. They looked like cloudy quartz.
>>
>>37646959
His logic was that although he's been "studying for 3 years" he only "felt comfortable to move up to barbell squats from the smith" 2 months ago. This pt only squats 1pl8. He's so smug talking about how he knows better than me because of his studies yet he's a complete scrub IRL.
>>
How much do good ones cost? How long would you need to use one for?
>>
Kind of embarrassing desu famalamdamsam
>>
>>37644224
WHO IS THIS!!!!
>>
>>37647472
if you find out you don't have the genetics after gaining fat, you can get those operations which put your own fat on your ass
