Are there any downsides to tracking calories by the week as opposed to daily?
For instance, my current goal is to maintain. If I enjoy a caloric surplus on training days, but counteract that surplus with an equal deficit on rest days, would this be the same as hitting maintenance calories daily?

Yeah I understand, but are there any downsides that come with tracking your cal intake over bigger time frames? Can I expect fluctuations in weight for example?

Of course it's a terrible idea.
If you set a 14,000 calorie limit for 7 days but consume 4000 in just one day then you're kind of fucked.
Do what makes you happy. Life is too short to do otherwise.

whatever floats your goat, overall weekly caloric intake matters more than daily, you can do it however you want bb
>on 1600 cal daily cut
>didnt workout today because couldnt
>also ate 2000 cals today, buying wings and making homemade pizza bread
I'm ashamed :'(
