I was a competitive swimmer until hs. I could do fly in 56, but my shoulders are all types of fucked up now. At least my ohp hit 135 before my bench hit 170

Well how's your stroke? Doing bilateral breathing? Keep your head down looking down at the bottom of the pool so you have a straight body position and you aren't dragging your legs. Are you keeping elbows above your hands throughout the stroke?
I'm not exactly a great swimmer I swam competitively until my early teens and am only now getting back into it a decade on but when compared to everyone else in the pool I regularly swim in there are so many mistakes even I can see in peoples strokes. The main key to swimming is swimming efficiently I find. Take someone who is unfit but has developed proper form and someone who is fit but barely knows how to swim and chances are the person who has the best stroke will easily swim faster and be less tired at the end.

You'll be fine. I took years off of swimming before getting back into it over the last couple years. You won't be as good, sure, but getting back to your best is a premade target you already have and it won't take too long to be faster than pretty much anyone else in a public pool.
