When I got dumped, music definitely helped me a lot. Maybe you should check out some early Beatles and Elvis stuff. They have a lot of stuff about rejection, and if you make a playlist of songs with that theme, it can help a lot.
Also, learning to play an instrument. Get a $5 Hohner Blues Band Harmonica on Amazon and learn some blues riffs. Maybe piano too.
Playing an instrument really helps to deal with the sadness, especially when you feel no other way to express it.
beyond music, you can join a hobby club (it sounds lame, but they can be pretty fun). They help you meet people you'd never even see if it wasn't for your shared interests. AND you get to have a hobby to take your mind off of it.

Anyway, i went through almost the same situation, even through im not politically inclined, she acted as i was an evil racist, nazi, right winger.
I lost my friends who were on the same social circle, and sometimes i get some angry looks from the militant leftists at my campus.
It was really awful at the beggining, but it does gets better, made better friends who i relate more to, felt good realizing i only lost fake friends who talked with me because of my ex, and now im feeling really better, since i realized how much of a weight she was at my life, i've been able to read, lift, paint, draw and do my college projects now, as opposed as when she suffocated me with her presence everyday.
It will hurt, but just accept it man, let the pain come, and always remember that someday it will go away, learn your leassons and move on, but don't try to hide your feelings from yourself, it only gets worse.
Also, meditation if you have troubles sleeping because you are thinking of her.
