Yo /fit/, I used to be a regular on this board but ghosted because of medical school. I finished that shit so now I'm back. Post any medical questions you have and I'll answer them

So i was working in the garden and clearing out poison ivy. i was wearing gloves and a shirt but im still covered in it. i guess i touched my dick cause now my balls and part of the shaft have a poison ivy rash on them. Its also all over my neck. i went to the doctor and got prednisone. how long until my dick gets better?
>>
>>37271333

how much did you study per day

was it hard to graduate from med shcool
>>
>>37271369
Normally, a course of corticosteroids following a bad allergic dermatitis is around ~2-ish weeks. Where I did my hospital rotations was not where poison ivy grows so I'm just going off what I learned in school. Try not to rub your balls on poison ivy often since chronic corticosteroids can fuck your shit up
>>
whats it like to be a pill pusher well knowing that a well thought out diet/exercice is the best preventive care.
>>
Perfect timing actually

>last Wednesday take a nap
>wake with a fever
>throw up in the middle of the night
>fever gone, only lasted like 12 hours
>since then stomach hurts every time I eat
>threw up from 2 (TWO) beers last night
>messy near diarrhea shit every day

This is killing muh gains
>>
>>37271371
I studied around ~8 hours a day. But I was what you call a "gunner" and was at the top of my class. Other friends would study less and be okay with being in the middle. And it's not the graduating part that is hard, it's the hell that comes with taking standardized exams. Those suck dick. Speaking of sucking dick, girls that hear you're gonna be a doctor do that pretty easily, so that makes it worth it.
>>
>>37271395
ok thanks. thats what i figured. i got poison ivy 3 weeks ago, was on prednisone for 12 days and most of the stuff cleared up. looks like i didnt learn my lesson and im back on it again.

Whats so bad about corticosteroids?
>>
>>37271403
Well I'm looking at making ~300k after my residency starting, so I guess it looks pretty good? I can prescribed you something to treat your hypertension, having so much salt isn't good for your cardiovascular system.
>>
>>37271423
Eh, well it's first off a steroid. So all the shit you read about in /cheaters/ threads about anabolics, mostly. But in summary, thins your skin, suppresses your immune system, and pretty substantial vision problems.

how long does it take to cure a broken heart? whats the best way to do it?

>i just answer a question or say 1 sentence to end it

>>37271472
No, it doesn't. But it sure helps. Plus the whole "saving people every day thing" does have it's merits. To be honest, very few jobs provide the financial stability, prestige and moral fulfillment that medicine provides. But if you want to consider me a "pill-pusher" then whatever. I'll be seeing you in a few years, any ways.

Subway? Well it could be a range of things from staph A enterotoxin infection (which happens like 4 hours after consumption) to E.coli, which is practically everywhere. If it doesn't resolve within a week, I'd go to a clinic where they can prescribe you some antibiotics.

kinda wish she'd get a new man so i knew it was completely over. just got a text from her 2 minutes ago.

"are you doing ok in life still? you know i still miss you. i had 2 dreams about you last week."
>>
>>37271478
Well GERD is typically associated with, beyond the obvious shit like alcohol and smoking, with too much protein consumption. That being said, you have an OVERPRODUCTION of gastrin, so PPI's lower it to normal levels. So theoretically (unless they're overmedicating you), you have a functional metabolism. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If anything, be careful with how much protein you're consuming. It may be too much (despite what bros here say).

went 2 emerge with chest pains a month ago they put me on tecta and sent me to a cardiologist. tecta hasnt helped and cardiologist confirmed its not heart related through ultrasound and stress test why does my chest still hurt brah. not brought on by exercise or eating it just seems to come and go randomly. >>37271416
I'd rather have gunners as my doctor than middle people. Or do you think there's no discernible difference between the top of the class and the middle of the class when it comes to doing doctor stuff?

Also what does being at the top of your class in med school even do? Will better hospitals pick you for residency?
>>
>>37271505
AIDS is exceedingly rare in heterosexual contact. However it's pretty obvious you live a high-risk lifestyle so if you haven't gotten anything life-threatening yet, you will. Wrap your shit up man, your momma didn't think dropping you so many times would make you that fucking retarded.
>>
>>37271512
Either get back together with her now or cut her off for good. Don't go wistfully thinking you'll have a chance somewhere down the road again because you'll only get crushed harder when you're single and she's not.

There is an honorary fraternity called "Order of the Omega" which is like the Dean's List. That increases your chances of landing a dope residency. All right my nigga, this is a dick question. I'm a 26 yo virgin and a girl blew me for the first time recently but I kept losing my boner and then getting it back. I couldn't cum either. I've been fapping to porn exclusively for 10 years and sometimes I'll lose my rod while doing that too. Is my dick broken? What should I do? She wants to fuck soon but I'm afraid it'll be the same thing. Help me brah.
>>
>>37271829
I did not really learn much about performance problems but I'll try and take a crack at it. Boners are due to your parasympathetic system, so if you develop anxiety, that switches your brain into the sympathetic tract, therefore diverting the neurohormones to something like running away from a bear. If anything I would try to not be so nervous, also don't masturbate so much. She should be understanding if you're a virgin.

>>
>>37271821
Given your age, family history and work up you've received, I really doubt it's cardiac in nature. You probably do have costochondritis, as that happens in young men pretty frequently. If you don't have any other symptoms I wouldn't stress too much and next time it flares up, take an NSAID. If you get jaw pain, shortness of breath, clamminess, then definitely opt for a more in depth cardiac work-up

Pros? You'll be taller than 5'5". Which despite what this board says, is not that big of a deal.

What are your opinions on nurses trying to get their DNP?
>>
>>37273935
There has been a large push within the US medical community for an increase in midlevel providers to make up for the shortage of doctors in the US. I have not quite yet have had the pleasure of working alongside them, but like anybody else in the emergency department, they play a critical role in helping everything run smoothly. From what I saw, occasionally DNP's (especially seasoned nurse vets) have the tendency to butt heads with physicians, especially the young ones. I'm hoping this doesn't happen too much to me
>>
>>37271333
My junk has been inflamed and itchy lately, but I'm a virgin and never used any needle drugs, and I'm too embarrassed to go to the doctor about it. Is it something that will go away on its own?
>>
>>37273979
Haha, I was worried about the "butting head" part. I have my BS in nursing and worked as an RN for a year already. I like it, but I feel limited so I was planning to apply to a DNP program or just a ND program. I wanted to be a doctor when I was younger, but it's so costly.
>>
Do you have an opinion on marijuana?
>>
>>37274008
Yeah to be honest, med school was hell and a half. I want to say if given then chance I would do it again, but I don't know. DNP's are great for only a few years of work. What specialty?

>>37273992
Go check it out man. The doctor won't remember your face 5 minutes after you leave. The consequences of ignoring that could include phimosis, worsening inflammation and infertility. Don't be a fool, check your tool.
>>
Hey Doc, two questions.

First, I have MS, which obviously fucking sucks. I take avonex weekly and it fucks me for being able to exercise the day of and after, and I have issues with cardio in general. I've been trying beta alanine recently and it seems to help a little bit, but i'm still pretty potato. Is there anything else I should be trying? Is there anything in the semi-legal or illegal/steroid realm that would help that my regular doctor wouldn't normally recommend?

Secondly, my fat bitch of a girlfriend is a fat bitch. We started dating at 16 and she's just gone full tumblr. We're 28 now, when will her shitty diet and lack of exercise catch up to her?
>>
>>37274027

>>
>>37274027
I think it is great. It, like anything, should be done in moderation. I'm excited for the research they're conducting regarding pediatric neuroregulation. But too much weed can give you bitch-tits, so there's that.
>>
>>37274042
Ahh I see :( Well, I work in two areas in two different facilities. One is in the cath lab at this hospital I did clinicals at as a student and the other is at a local doctor's office. I don't know what DNPs offer as to specialties. It's something I recently looked into that I thought I might be interested in.
>>
>>37274053
I'm sorry, this is outside my realm of training to make any suggestions beyond the interferon therapy they are already providing. I've got a naturopathic friend, I'll hit him up to see if there's any homeotherapeutic stuff.

Regarding your second question, why the hell are you going on 12 years with somebody you clearly resent so much? That ain't healthy and it doesn't take a doctor to tell that

>>37274055
Lol you didn't need to steal my name bro. I don't have anything against weed
>>
>>37274095

Well, obviously I'm biased towards EM, but it's really a great option. Stable hours (shift work), mystery as to what you'll see every day, quick work so you don't have to deal with overly-needy/overly-complicated cases, etc. Look into it. Plus we always need more /fit/bros
>>
>>37274096
Thanks, figured it was a long shot but I would ask anyways.

And yeah the relationship has gone pretty pear shaped in the past year so a lot of the resentment is pretty fresh. Off to a phd program(liberal arts tho because I can't make good decisions) in September and i'm pretty sure we're going to break up. Just wanted to know what the long term would be if it did work out.

Thanks for taking the time man, much appreciated.
>>
>>37274095

Nurse Practitioners have to choose between family, adult primary, adult acute, psychiatric, and maybe peds.

Most urgent care centers will pretty much only take family since you can't see kids and adults both otherwise.

Hospitals are requiring acute care more and more now, whereas dr. offices prefer family for the same reason (seeing kids).

PA is a good option as you'll already have the reqs from RN, plus you have the medical model, which is frankly better. Also, PAs can work in any specialty as long as their oversight physician approves on the skills.

That said, NPs will likely be able to open their own practices within the next 10 years or so (about 15 or so states now give them full independent practice authority). Also, you can get the Dr. title with DNP by doing 3 years after bachelors instead of 2.

They make the same amount of money 85k-100k, psychiatric (PMHNP) can hit 115k as they are specialist mid-levels.
>>
>>37274112
Speaking of EM, I loved ERs when I did clinicals as a student. Before I became a nurse, I was an xray tech LOL. And I basically lived in the ER xray room because none of my other co workers wanted to go down there so I always volunteered.
I'm not a bro, btw.
>>
>>37274186
Hmmm, I was thinking about going for PA school...but I always hear that doctors don't like PAs. One of my instructors told me they were "wannbe but can't be doctors".
>>
>>37274218

I mean, it depends on the physician. A lot of physicians will have a single PA in their office who does most of the skilled procedures, and sees the same patients. I knew a surgeon in urology who had the same PA for 15 years, and they both made out well.

In a hospital setting, there is always going to be dick waving, but it mostly depends on the actual people involved. The relationship aspect is more important for PAs, since they run on a physician's license but you have more flexibility in area of practice.

Though, NPs have the struggle of no longer being a real nurse. You still run off your RN license, but you are in a strange place, as your skills and protocols remove you from the day to day nursing staff (and the scutwork). Imagine doing rounds with the internist, while another RN is helping the nursing assistants with patient clean-up, and then you giving her orders. Expect to get some behind-the-back hate.

In offices though, PAs and NPs generally do their own thing, and see their own patients. Now, family physicians do get salty as fuck because they are basically overtrained and getting totally replaced. Every study done so far as shown the same patient outcome rates when using mid-levels vs. M.D./D.O. in primary care settings.

That all said, for 5 years running, PA and NP have been rated in the top 5 jobs in the US. The bank is good, the schooling is reasonable, and the job market is booming (and will continue to be).

I had sex with a random girl without a condom about three weeks ago. I don't seem to have caught any STDs. Am I safe or can they be dormant for longer?

(Yeah yeah, I'll glove it up from now on)

I'm a virgin, but despite years of fapping, I do not think I have had a single pleasurable orgasm in my life. Should that be warning me of anything?

Related, what's the deal with all this high test stuff?

As if the average patient has enough disciplin to diet/exercise properly. Most people prefer the easy way and just want to take a pill for the rest of their lives.

hohohoooo you sound like a righteous dickhead my friend.

whoopdidoo. youre a doctor. so am I and have been for longer than you - there are plenty others out there, there'll always be someone who scored higher than you, its not as honorific and prestigious as you make out, we dont save lives every day and money won't solve all your issues, like the massive dong on your head or need for approval.

peace out intern

most doctors are fukin quacks that never learn anything after school, our knowledge of medicine changes rapidly along with the corrupt scientific research field. Unless it's something actually life threatening, yeah i'm gona go ahead and self diagnose and order some shit from india and collect a shit ton of anecdotal evidence before I trust some stuck up retarded doctor.

oh, and the fact that medical mistakes are the #1 killer in the united states even with our obesity epidemic.

oh and can't forget the abysmally low test scores required for non-white doctors. Don't even bother going to a non-white in the US or you risk them having a mcdegree with a 3.0 gpa

asians might be booksmart but they won't fucking listen to you and will just try to shove you out the door with a half assed diagnosis

Jelquing. If I were to warm up my dick properly, take it slow and be careful, would I see my dick size increase without my peener breaking? Or is it just a fun way to fuck yourself up?

It seems like the only ones who ever actually say whether it works or not are either guys who broke their dick by doing something stupid, or are the same guys who religiously follow nofap.

Please, Dr. I really wanna know if I can safely make my dick bigger.

PA here (emergency). The docs love us - we are trained similarly as they are ("medical model") and we make them a shitload of money.

What can I do for my chest ? Is it gyno ? If so, what can I do beside surgery ?

Also been working out for around 2 years now and lost fat about everywhere BESIDE my love handles. I mean, I lost really nothing at all only in that particular area. What might be the cause ? It's pretty fucking giggly I'm even wondering if it's actually fat...

Pic related. What's your opinion Dr House senpai ?

Gunner my ass. Why would you bring up anabolics or /fraud/ when talking about pred? Corticosteroids could not be more different in their effects from anabolics/androgenic steroids.

Also, who the fuck prescribes oral corticosteroids for dermatitis? Unless he stripped naked and fucked the ivy, it should be manageable with cream. And that means a negligible chance of any side-effects unless he shoves it up his ass.

What's the best dietary schedule (number of meals and times) as well as palette of foods to eat and not eat, I want to lose about 2 pounds of fat per week this summer and I've already been running/lifting.

I have 80hd and take amphetamine 10mg tid. I'm consistently prehypertensive or stage one and thinking of asking for clonidine in hopes it will also help with sleep and is used sometimes off label for ADD. My cardio shit is terribad so my main concern is how will this interfere with cardio? I just got a bike trainer and try to get 30 minutes a day. I'm guessing it will fuck up my target heart rate. Do I just use the able to speak guesstimate of workload or shoot for lower heart rate or just go harder to hit target?

tl;dr: Will clonidine kill cardio gains?

Is there a tendency between results and physical appearance, FitDoc?

Do your friends look good? Are you the only one lifting?

The most knowledgeable, insightful dude you've ever met during your courses, what did he look like?

Because when I started med school (France), they all looked like a fucking car struck them. They looked old as shit, 30-something, at only 20 years old.

Shit frightened me you have no idea.

My left humerus isnt stable (not attached properly to the shoulder) but xrays show no dislocation. Strengthening my rotayor cuff muscles right now. Anything else i can do?

It also hurts my back, maybe the traprhomboid area when i internally rotate my shoulder/arm. Pain is mostly felt in the anterior deltoid, weakness in ohp is apparent.

you're a pretty cool guy OP, good luck in your medical endeavors
>>
>>37271333

Hi OP.

When I do triceps exercises (and some chest ones) I can feel the nerves running super-fast running down from the triceps (or shoulder) to my hand. I immediately have to stop the exercise I do, but it only happens at pressure (i.e. after maybe 10 push-ups, 8-10 reps of bench or so).
What is it and how to fix?
