Is running 3km in 16 minutes good?

As far as I'm aware the armed forces require a 2 mile run in under, or around, 12 minutes so that's roughly 3.3 km.
Just work on getting around 7km/h running speed, easily simulated on a running machine, then transfer that technique into running on the road I suppose.

You'd need to drop to 15 minutes to actually call it a run, but 15 minutes ain't a run, that's a warm up.
If you can run 6km in 30 minutes, then you can start saying you run.
A good tempo is anywhere between 13 and 15 km/h, if you're running short distance.

Don't think you can really say running is only going faster than 12km/h. I sure as hell think the majority of the people don't call that a jog. Marathon runners will probably think going 15km/h is a jog and running starts from 17km/h.
And altough I kinda agree the 15min is not that much for a TRAINING, this might be a competition thing for him. I think we both agree Usain Bolt's 100m distance can be called running (okay, sprinting would be better), or an olympic 5k in 12min37s for that matter.
That being said: it's not bad, not really good as well. Depends on what your athletic build is. Why would you want to know though?

First time I measured and timed my run. I have nothing to compare it against. It wasn't something where I was exerting myself, but I did put a good effort in. Really just want to see what is normal for /fit/ and their opinions.
It was the start of a training session. I have never really focussed on cardio although I do play B grade in Aussie Rules football. Which is more or less two hours of running jumping and getting knocked the fuck around.

Final exams on my sports class was a 4km run. 16 mins would've gotten you a C or D. Or 3- (7 points) in my country. So a km more and less Time. 11-12 mins for the 4km was an A aka 1 (15 points)
