Why are you against low squats?
Is it unhealthy for knees?
Difficult question.
In my personal opinion, I believe going below parallel and keeping knees aligned with toes is best for longevity of knee health.
I do 1/2 of these
Well personally I don't have the mobility

Comes with time. Squatting stretches the muscles needed for a deep squat.
Squat more.
I use to have awful buttwink. After a year of squatting I can go deep without issues. Never did any stretching other than squatting more,
most strain on the knees is actually at the top when you just start to bend them
the lower you go the more strain on the hips
You only need to go down 90 degrees. Anything more is a waste and really bad on the knees.
I feel as if going too deep makes it too hard. Not because of the distance as such, more that fact that your hamstrings start to lose tension

shut up mom

But below parallel your glutes get activated.

>You only need to go down 90 degrees
yes
>Anything more is a waste and really bad on the knees
no

What about at the bottom, coming up, isn't the pull on your knees greater at that point where they're being used as a fulcrum to pull up all that weight?
/r/ graph of knee strain with respect to squat deepness

Gotcha brotato.

I go low, but try to do it sloooowly as not to fuck up my knees.
It's also much harder to do it this way, so I've been struggling with progressing on my squats with this form.

Definitely feel the same, also spine support. I only go a bit below parallel to keep the tension tight the whole time. I am pretty tall though.

You're probably too afraid of dive-bombing not that dive bombing has anything to do with knees all that dive-bombing does is make it harder for you to do the lift.
You should learn how to bounce properly.

No one is against them hell people that lift don't even count half squats or quarter squats as full reps.
