For those who might be a bit confused with the graphs from Nuckol's new article, here's pic related.

Seems pretty clear that the space between B and C is the initial pushing back of the bar, probably why the anterior deltoid activation quickly decays after the initial pushing, and why the pec major activation goes up after C (where it's mostly transverse flexion left on the range of motion).

Kinda sucks that they didn't detail it further on the pec major, would be great the have the different EMG for the clavicular and sternal (or even sternal and coastal) fibres of the chest.

I'll be a bit more free this week, so I might do my own writeup on the bench press. I've talked about the biomechanics of different parts in plenty of separate posts, but it would be good to make an actual article on all of it kinda like I did for the squat/hamstrings.

The other russian graph looks like equipped bench to me. Veeeery slow descent and a lot of anterior delts and a lot less triceps and chest. A bit weird.

Keep in mind surface EMG is not the end-all-be-all of biomechanics and do not show the full picture. It's very limited.

Probably because EMG sucks and is pretty unreliable on its own, and this is the graph of a single lifter. As Sheiko said before, there's some pretty big variation on the lat activation from lifter to lifter.

But what Nuckols said about the biomechanics in his article and Sheiko concludes in his post sums it up. Lats keep your back tight and your shoulders stable during benching (helps with the arch and depression of the scapulae). That's pretty much it.

Bench - 100 KG
Deadlift 200 KG

Posting webm of my 5pl8 grip n rip, I'm trying it out.

Couple things that jumped out at me:
>I went into flexion at the very bottom, just to reach the bar
>the flexion didn't get worse after I grabbed the bar, so at least it isn't dynamic
>bar moved better at that weight than it ever has
>I'm enjoying the grip and rip on sumo at least as much as I like it conventional.
Just lets me get into position better than trying to set up while hold the bar. If grip is not AT ALL a problem, I will probably try this on max attempts, provided I can iron out this flexion before then.

Conventional is beginning to feel really really comfy, just riding this out as a heavy assistance or variation or whatever, just for a couple heavy singles, then moving to SLDL for dat hammy size.

I feel a lot stronger now than I ever have, especially pulling sumo. Looking forward to exploring new options for squatting.

I once asked this awhile back and was met with derision and hate. I'm not sure why, but I want to ask again.

When I first squatted 100kg, I noticed there was a different feel to it as it sat on my back. Uncomfortable, oppressive and just generally not nice. I wondered if that feeling remained the same as even if you could squat 200, or if that feeling would shift to your new max.

Having squatted 170 now, I can answer for me. 100kg feels as uncomfortable as it did a few months ago, but 170 is way more strange and uncomfortable a feeling.

So for you guys, when does the weight start to feel funky, and how far away from your max is it?

Even pulled my DL with a round back cause I fucked up my setup, did it again proper, but of course the one I got on film is me JoePulling.

My openers quali me for provincials which is really the primary goal here, secondary is DL PR, tertiary is podium.

No idea who's signed up, not gonna look, so getting on the podium would just be a nice surprise.

Interesting. What makes you feel uncomfortable? Physical or psychological?

For me, it's the bar starting to really find purchase on my back, and I seem to feel extra pressure all over my body.

It used to happen often, but now only once a week or so. I've had a few experiences where I was very close to death. That feeling of dread, where your stomach drops and adrenalin courses through you, was always very memorable. I seem to get that with weights a lot. Where I'm almost sure I'm going to die. Not a bad thing, but draining. Fight or flight response seems to be a very real thing

But now I'm handling weight close to my max every day, I find I'm not intimidated by the weight in the slightest. It's a new normal. But still I find the uncomfortable feeling remains.

Makes me excited to find out how painful a 270kg squat will be.

This is the third set of 6 reps with 250 lbs. I'm on candytoes linear strength/hypertrophy routine.

It doesn't look like there's anything particularly egregious to me, but my lower back was hurting (not just the muscles, but the vertebrae and all that) for two days after this, so I guess I'm retarded or something.

you're not bracing properly. You breath in pretty quickly and go down right after and you're breathing into your chest. You need to breath directly into your stomach. Make your belly expand with air and then brace is as if you're about to be punched in the gut. Practice this out of training as well as in training. Through the day watching tv or something, practice breathing directly into your stomach (no chest rise) and brace as if you're about to be punched. Your ribs should come down into your gut and it should feel really solid.

Second, fix your walk out. Have control of the bar the entire time. You're lifting up and back at the same time. Calm yourself. Unrack it up strong, and walk out strong in two separate movements.

Mobility looks really good.
