He's Mark Rippetoe's son and was the reason Starting Strength was written. Supermang browsed this board a lot before the sticky was made and urged his father to write a book to help his online friends out. Rippetoe followed his advice, but wrote SS "for the masses," not wanting to explicitly thank 4chan. Supermang is in a lot of the photos in SS if you want to see pictures of him when he was a beginner.
