Because the majority of people on /fit/ are impatient manchildren who want gym results (read:bigger muscles) yesterday.
>>
>>36789125
Pullups/chinups/dips are one thing, and probably most people who lift weights do them anyway. But replacing bench/OHP/squat/deadlift with callisthenic exercises would be inefficient and counterproductive.

Again, it is inefficient, but you can build muscle

They all trained in gyms for years, none of them build their muscle with calistenics only, no matter what they say.

Reduces the ROM but makes the movement harder by putting the lats in a worse position to contribute.

>>36789018

Fit hates body weight because of fags like you, also because it's hard to progressively overload and everyone thinks they know how to train bodyweight.
>>
>>36789179
>I will let you know that building muscle without a gym shows weak character.
I never said that. I believe it takes longer to build size and strenght with your bodyweight only. You need more dedication, knowledge and time. You can call it character, I call it inefficient
>>
It has to do with goals. /fit/ wants an aesthetics, which weight lifting achieves in a way faster time with better results. Bodyweight does build strength and muscle, but focuses more on movement and mobility. That's not to say you can't get aesthetics with bodyweight exercises, but it takes a lot longer, you have to get really creative to get that muscle tension, and sonetimes going from one variation to another is freakin' hard (e.g. go from one arm assisted pullup to one arm unassisted pullup)

The reason i do bodyweight is for the mobility it provides. I don't care much for asthetics. However, I don't completely ignore weights. You can do many of the body weight exercises with weights (e.g. weighted dips and pull ups, bulgarian split squats)

it may take longer but in the end you can nice skills like handstand, front/back lever, human flag, muscle ups, planche and more. You get greater flexibility, stronger suporting muscles, can run faster, get better endurance and since you have to maintain low bf% to not carry extra weight stay lean.

Calisthenics is gymnastics light. Not bodybuilding, not powerlifting and not strongman.
>>
>>36789018
/Fit/ wants looks, not function. Lifting weights is the easiest way to look good without actually have any function other than lifting more of said weights
>>
>>36789018
Because I dont want to look like a retard wearing shorts.
>>
They probably hate the fact that they need to keep learning progressions to progress rather than adding weight to the bar like they are leveling up in a rpg
>>
>>36789219
>Calisthenics is gymnastics light. Not bodybuilding, not powerlifting and not strongman.
True, but all these Calisthenics fags on youtube and ITT try to sell it as a better way to build muscle.
>You get greater flexibility, stronger suporting muscles, can run faster, get better endurance
Call me a fat powerlifter but I prefer weaker "supporting muscles" (which get trained by dumbbell/barbell exercises as well) over not training your lower body at all.
>>
>>36789254
and people believe it because they think uuuh durr he's doin bodyweight hes natty guys ill get like that in 4 months
>>
>>36789018
Because my weights weigh more than your body
>>
Why not both?
>>
>>36789018
Because Americans have this weird obsession with barbells.
>>
>>36789024
I don't get people who want to look like that retard.
>>
>>36789032
>almost any goals
>>
I think bodyweight exercises are great, but wow it is way easier for manlets to start training with it. Bodyweight shit just gets exponentially harder as your height increases
>>
>>36789201
It isn't only that it's hard to progressively overload - it isn't as enjoyable doing 30x5 as it is doing 3x5, and bw takes months of 30x5 to be able to do the heavier progressions (figures not exact). As such it lacks specific hormonal effects (test boost) which lower rep range training stimulates.
>>
>>36789018

because most people here can't benchpress 400 pounds, silly
>>
>>36789524
I benchpressed your mum last night and she weighs a lot more than 400 lbs
>>
>>36789018
just not as effective. I did bw for quite a while, but couldn't do proper unassisted handstand push ups until I put some good old OHPs into my routine.
My program now is about half and half.
>>
>>36789524

basically this. most people on this board are fatties and self-proclaimed powerlifters (fatties in disguise) who can't even do 5 pullups. everyone here who actually has a clue about fitness and sports doesn't have anything against bodyweight training
>>
>>36789492
Bw doesn't mean high reps. Handstand pushups, one handed push ups and pistol squats are pretty stimulating to the novice-intermediate trainer even in an 8 rep set.
>>
>>36789608
It means not being able to tailor your reps the way you're able to with weights. It takes months of training to reach a handstand pushup, that's what I meant by saying it takes months of 30x5 (pushups) to be able to do 3x5 (handstand pushups) whereas with weights 3x5 is immediately available.

One-handed may be different, but I wonder if there are enough other exercises to make a balanced training program every step of your progression up in weight.

I understand in theory if you take it as a whole bw isn't necessarily high-rep in and of itself - however, in practice it seems like the inability to tailor the weight means you will be spending a lot of time in high-rep ranges, whereas with weights you're able to train low-rep immediately and throughout your training.
>>
After /r9k/, /fit/ is ties with /lgbt/ and /pol/ for the most insecure board. Since its not moving metal plates they think others will judge them.
>>
>>36789664
or we've tried it and it doesn't work.
>>
>>36789643
push ups don't lead to handstand push ups. Pike push ups though.
Other than that I agree completely. Even if one's goal is to do HSPUs, it would be much faster to achieve with weights.
>>
I've been training with calisthenics for almost 2 years now, and when i started i was always the skelliest person around, i had seen a couple of hannibal for king videos and started with bw doing squats, pullups and pushups at home, and after 1 year i had gained about 13-14kg of muscle while losing some fat, even the big guys started complementing me, i reached a point where i did every muscle group 3x a week reaching 1000 pushups and 500 pullups, the thing is after 1 year i stopped growing at all, not even progressions, increasing tension, lowering reps, etc helped, so imo it's very good for beginners but after a while you need to start using weights, unless you want to get better at it, started gym and benched 100kg(220lbs) for 3 reps at 70kg (154lbs)
>>
>>36789720
i doubt you learn to do a handstand lifting weights
>>
>>36789991
can you do a planche or even planche pushups?
handstand pushups between bars, one arm pullup?
>>
>>36789492

Look heres a perfect example.
>>
>>36790023
i'm close to straddle planche, planche pushups not yet just pseudo planche pushups, never cared about handstand balance so i do deep handstand pushups on the wall, and 3 one arm pullups in a row, i never trained for specific movements such as levers, handstands, human flag etc, just high intensity and high reps, i don't know how to make a routine with progressions and also reps/sets.
>>
>>36789991
>after 1 year i stopped growing at all, not even progressions, increasing tension, lowering reps, etc helped
maybe this
>i don't know how to make a routine with progressions and also reps/sets.
is the reason

>>
It is less idiot proof than weights. Here are the type of niggas that can't be arsed to do cardio, why would they not continue their low time preference
>>
Because bodyweight progressions are inefficient and slow. Using pulleys and weight vests to improve progressions makes it better for upper body development.

That, and barbell work requires less research and tweaking.

Bodyweight takes a lot more work and initiative. Results are worth imo

I only do bodyweight exercises and im making decent gains 6' 200 lbs. Nothing but pushup variations, dips, pull ups, chins, pistol squats, lunges and jump squats. Ive been going hard everyday for 6 months and eating 2500-3000 cals. I want to add some core stuff, anyone know some decent core exercises?
>>
>>36791768
that's unbelievable - how much volume?
>core exercises
planks, hanging leg raises (supposedly they tighten hip flexors, though), windshield wipers, dragon flags, human flags.
>>
Is there any feasible way to add resistance to push ups?
I think the movement as a whole is better than a bench press
>>
>>36791898
decline pushups, although it alters the balance of which muscles are being used.

one-hand pushups, hindu pushups, diamond pushups, handstand pushups, explosive pushups (they make it harder at least, it might not be technically adding resistance), some people use weights on their back.
>>
Because calisthenics are actually hard and aren't just picking things up and putting them down.
>>
>>36791768

L-sit, senpai!
>>
>>36791833
Really high volume. When i started i could barely do 3 chins in a row but now im banging out sets of 15.

Routine:

Wide chins 10x15
Wide pull ups 10x10
Close grip chins 10x10
Close grip pulls 10x10
Inverted rows with dog leash4x8 1xfail

Legs
Squat 10x50
Pistol squat 5x15
One leg split squat 5x20
Lunge 5x20
Calf raise 3x100
Jumps squat 5xfail

Chest

Handstand pushups 10x10
Push ups 10x15
Incline pushups 10x15
Dips 10x12
Close hand dips 10x12
Inverted skull crushers 5xfail.

>>
>>36792081
10 sets fucking hell, I did that for squats once cause I was no where near a gym, did 8x50 squats, 1 min rest, last 10 reps are a count of 10 secs each meaning 5 sec descent and 5 sec rise. My legs were completely ruined for the next 3 days haha.
>>
>>36789142
And you want to get gainz slowly because...?
>>
>>36792180
Yeah man when i started i was doing only 10 set of 15 and it was killing me. I just kept pushing though. Not going yo lie to you though breh every other leg day i drop the split squat. Some times i feel like im over working them.
>>
>>36791929
what you're suggesting changes the muscles being used or the way they are used
>>36791898
my progression for chest was this (move up when you can complete 20 reps)
reg pushups, spider man pushups, weight going from side to side, weight from side to side with knee raised towards the chest, one handed push ups (feet wide apart), one handed push ups feet close.
that should be enough for 6 months.
>>
>>36793545
Doing one arm pushups with feet together is impossible unless you bend your torso a lot, feet wide apart is used so that the torso and spine is not bent which i think is overall better imo

I do calisthenics.
I only lift weights once or twice a month to maintain strength.
I used to lift weights exclusively but, calisthenics is more enjoying, challenging, and rewarding for ME.
If anything you should be open to all exercise and not shun out any others regardless of preference.
