No, but your argument is retarded whether you're pulling three plates or ten.

There's two main reasons here.

1. You don't pull near-max effort deadlifts to build strength. You use it to test strength.

2. Supportive gear doesn't stop you getting stronger. Especially not belts (which result in greater ab activation on the lift, not less). Sometimes its the best thing for getting stronger if it lets you hammer a weak point or accumulate more volume than you could without it.

The only reason I can think of to legitimately hate sumo is if you're a conventional puller in the turbomanlet light weight classes and you're pretty much forced to pull sumo to be competitive with all the other manlets.

I am trying to say people who think sumo is cheating are usually always weak. They think that sumo is the difference between their lift and someone way stronger than them - when in reality they're just weak and it doesn't matter which style they choose, they'll suck at both.

You see this all the time with every lift. Guys who couldn't bench 2 plate if their life depended on it think they would suddenly bench 500 raw if they were a fat cheating powerlifter.

The only place where sumo is clearly dominant is the really light weight classes, so really short light lifters might be forced to go that route to be more competitive because they are more likely built for it.

I personally pull 100lbs more conventional than sumo and much prefer it that way. I can be more aggressive with the setup and I have a strong back.

I can pull 600 from a deficit, narrow stance conventional with a fairly wide grip. Probably the longest ROM you can get out a deadlift, but I couldn't handle that kind of weight sumo. Why?

Probably because I'm not built for it and I have a stronger back than legs.

The reality is that both sumo and conventional have a pretty even representation amongst high level lifters, and none of the heaviest world records have ever been set sumo.

It has a shorter ROM but that doesn't mean it's an easier lift, it's just slightly different.

Both hip extension, one uses a bit more quad the other a bit more back.
