Are chin ups a good ab exercise?

The day after doing back I would always have sore abs. I isolated the exercise that was causing it and found out it was... weighted chin-ups.

I was thinking about incorporating ab exercises into my routine, but are chin-ups enough?

>inb4 le squats/deadlifts maymay

That shit doesn't get my abs sore desu familia. Plus I did SS for like 8 months and it did nothing for my abs.
>>
>>36626025
Deadlifts and squats force you to push your chest up, abs pull it down. OHP is what trains abs but you get used to it so you won't be sore. Weighted chins with a dumbbell between feet is a sick way to train abs without wasting time, try it senpai.
>>
>>36626019
No, chinups aren't enough
Try some hanging leg raises since youre already hanging from there
>>
>>36626034

The thing about weighted chin ups is, I get sore abs every time I add weight. This is the only exercise where this is the case.

Going to start doing the dumbells though.

>>36626043

might as well
>>
>>36626034
>dumbbell between feet
how
>>
>>36626048
Hanging leg raises are literally a chin up without the pulling part, waste of time if you're already doing chins. Do cable crunches if you want a sick ab burn after your chins.

>>36626056
Some can and some can't. I got the idea from Frank Yang and it works really well. It gets hard if you go past like 10kg added but the plates get bigger so its not as bad as it sounds.

Do you do it like pic related?
>>
If you make your reps strict, you won't get ab activation.

I can't imagine doing it like that, I put the dumbbell on the side like this and step on the red plate and then as I go up for my first rep the plate that's on top ends up resting comfortably on my feet. It does limit you to doing straight legged chins though. Also, if you squeeze too hard you will cramp up, you just need to keep your legs together and it won't fall.

Nah, you don't. You contort your lower body to help your lift. How do I know? I've been doing this for a long time and used to do the same thing and it would give me sore abs every time.

I I let my legs dead hang and don't contort my lower body, I don't get ab soreness.
>>
>>36626162

Do you want me to record myself?
>>
>>36626162
You're supposed to brace bro. That's why if you put in a high ass chin up number on symmetricstrength you'll get a high ass ab rating.
>>
>>36626169
>>36626162

Well for clarity's sake - I bring my feet up once to get them cleared off the floor. I can't full rep it otherwise. But I'm not actively relaxing/contorting my legs.
>>
>>36626169

I don't want you to do anything, lel.

>>36626181
I'm not comfortable doing it anymore because none of my doors have good clearance. If I was back in a gym with a standard bar, I would.

That being said, I've seen people advise the contrary.

exactly so shut the fuck up internet shit talker baka
>>
>>36626202

'Exactly'? Was your point supposed to be that I don't give a fuck about you or your problem enough to 'want' you to post a video? Because that was mine.

>>
>>36626215

There's a difference between flopping around like a dead fish and involving your lower body in the lift.
>>
>>36626220

I AM NOT FUCKING FLOPPING AROUND YOU ASSHOLE

MY FORM IS FINE

IT IS YOU WHO IS IN THE WRONG

JUST STOP
>>
>>36626220
>>36626213

And you know what? I don't care about you or your problems either. Faggot.
>>
>>36626220
Bringing your knees up to tilt your body into a horizontal or slightly back leaning position is essential to perform a good chin up. How the fuck are you gonna activate your back properly if your head is directly below the bar? You'd have to rely on your arms.

>>36626190

Just stop man. Just kill yourself. Fuckign asshole

>doing a suspended row is crucial to a good chin-up

There's an exercise for that; it's called the row.

Can you name one strength coach that advocates your style?

Mark Rippetoe? No.

Note how his form deteriorates when he fatigues and he starts inclining in order to involve more mass in the lift. There's a reason he wasn't doing that from the beginning.

Wasn't me that you replied to the second time but as far as I'm concerned more mass is better.
>>
>>36626213

I dont care about your problems either. faggot
>>
>>36626288
Then you should be doing muscle-ups or power cleans, not chin-ups. The intention of the exercise changes with that kind of modification.
>>
>>36626294
Nigga I'm trying to work my lats, bis, rhomboids and rear delts not my quads or my tris. It's my first upper back exercise on pull day.
>>
This thread is fantastic. Some guy tells another guy on a text-only image board that he does chins wrong 'cuz his abs don't hurt. What a douche! Maybe he has strong abs, BRO. Ever thought about that one?
