I think the only reason I'm not much more masculine is that I'm not active enough. I think I'd be able to eat more and be hungrier if I were more active. It isn't that simple, trans people identify (whatever that means exactly is less important than what it means in practice) as the other sex than their physiological one. Therefore it makes more sense to help them to live the way they identify with than to assert "yeah but you're not changing your gametes" (gametes determine sex when you're identifying an animal, not chromosomes - chromosomes are the mechanism by which sex is switched one way or the other in development).
I'll try to type this as sober as possible - they realise they are not physiologically the other sex (apart from a handful of "it's all a social convention" ones who are not representative of trans people as a whole). It isn't adding anything to the conversation to talk about how they were born or chromosomes or gametes etc. almost everyone agrees with what you're saying, it just doesn't matter when it comes to trans people because they identify the other way. If you want to say it's a self-indulgent fantasy or an attempt to escape then why not put your theory to the test against other theories such as that it's a neurological mis-wiring (which won't change with therapy)?

Transsexuality isn't about the biological level, it's only about the identification (the "opinion"). That's why they're trans because there's a disjunct between their biological level and how they identify and almost no-one is trying to argue that the opinion "transforms" the biological level or over-rides it entirely.
If they are saying that then it's an ideological position which is shared by people who aren't even trans. It comes from Foucault originally (inspired by Nietzsche's skeptical critique of a truth separate from perspective) and is popular in Feminism (Judith Butler talks about it, I think). It's also pretty difficult to argue with, I think - most of its opponents on here haven't really understood how it works (but I suspect most of its proponents on Tumblr don't understand it really either).
Mainstream treatment of transsexuality even among trans people is still saying "it's a condition, it isn't physiologically being the other sex, only identifying as it". When they say "transwomen are real women" they don't mean physiologically (not all of them mean that anyway). Some of them are saying that how you identify is more important, which I agree with. You just have to make a split and see that there are two things going on. Clinging to the one you've identified and insisting it's the only one is a luxury you have only because you're not trans and maybe haven't even tried to understand them or support them. If you had, you might be more sympathetic to the idea there are two things happening here not only one determined by physiological state.
