I've taken to red lentils lately. Just put a cup of red lentils in a pot filled with about 1/2 inch of water above it, chop in a medium-sized yellow onion, crack some pepper, simmer until it's mush (10-20 minutes), and add some salt. Easy 50g of protein and tastes delicious without being as filling as normal lentils, so you can eat more. Have it with some homemade whole wheat bread.

I eat whole wheat rotini pasta, white or brown rice, fruit, and oatmeal. If you want to avoid high protein, stay away from lots of seitan.
I second the sweet potatoes, mushrooms, and spinach but the nuts would have lots of fat in them.
