Don't worry buddy. I used to not be able to do 5 pound curls for more than 10. I couldnt bench the bar. Nevermind OHP. Now 7 months later im benching 175 for 8 and OHP 115 for 5

I always sucked at benching
I can seated ohp 1 plate for 6 reps and can rep out 55s seated now
but I cannot even bench 1 plate, I don't fucking get it

You just answered your own question i think. It seems like once you've achieved a certain muscle mass or strength, it's easier to recover that level later than it was to attain it in the first place.
Also, check form. If you never really benched then you never acquired good mechanics for benching, so make sure you're doing it right before worrying about doing it heavy.
I don't flat bench anymore (getting old sucks) but some anon post whatever youtube video is trendy for benching form plz.
