Pic kind of related.

Hey /fit/, I was wondering if you guys had any advice for a fag looking to join the Army in terms of conditioning and exercise.

I need to lose weight and then tone up. I'm going in for Army Medic but I can't sign the dotted line until I meet physical standards.

I've been doing my own routine, push-ups, crunches, running, etc. But I was wondering if there was anything I could do to condition myself for boot camp specifically.

Many thanks /fit/.

Running, cardio, bodyweight exercises. The guys that do the best in the military are the skinny otter-mode guys that can do cardio all day long. Your 1RMs are meaningless.
>>
Run loads, do heaps of bodyweight exercise (especially planks) and you'll be fine.

Current active duty. If you sign as a 68W, expect to be attached to an Infantry platoon. Yo will likely do PT with them. I don't know about other posts, but on Fort Hood, all we fucking do is run. So get good at running, you want roughly a 14 minute or better 2 mile run time. Also, standard Army PT is fucking trash, the shit they make us do is quite literally fucking useless aside from the pushups. So when you get to your unit, and while you're in BCT (especially reception) do whatever you can, whenever you can because basic will fucking ruin you.
Speaking from experience, I started out being capable of roughly 7 pull-ups, joined as a skinny fuck, when I got out of BCT I couldn't even do 1. I had also gained roughly 30 pounds.
>>
>>36440945
In terms of conditioning yourself for Army PT, there's only 3 things you need to do. Push-up drill, sit up drill and 30-60's/60-120's.
>>
>>36441229
Active duty Navy here. I agree. GTFO of there

Borrowing the thread

So apparently I will most likely join the military as a group leader and enter 2 months before the rests of the recruits this summer.

Now im 5'7 at 150 lbs, any advice to lead other people? I have never done this before. Atleast im 23 compared to some guys that are probably younger than me
>>
>>36443141
It's simple, have you ever in your life had to follow someone? Had a boss at work? Coach at school?
What did you seek in them, as leaders?

I remember reading Infantry attacks by Rommel, he had a good anecdotes about a lot of shit in leading men, can't remember the quote exactly but it basically boiled down to, When your men are suffering, suffer with them, be an example to them in your duty, and in your private life, do this, and they will follow you through hell itself.

I'm off to basic in 1 month, good luck.

E-5 field artillery here. Put weight on your back and move for a few miles. Rucking is something almost everyone who joins needs to get used to. My unit did a 40 lb 8 mile movement last week and were doing 10 miles this week.

Also google darebee for military related workout schemes. Pic related

You need to be a morale person. I heard this from a retired special forces csm. You need to live the life of a good man.

You need to be tough and swift when youre disrespected. And always be willing to do what you tell others to do.

Why can't you guys just get civilian jobs and contribute instead of leaching off the government. How come tought guy soldiers get ptsd fighting middle aged farmers in sandals with ak-47's?

Just run dude you want your body to be used to it.
>>
>>36440945
I find it dumb for people who think the military will get you fit and force you to become fit. Yes being some what fit is necessary to get past basic training but if your going to do some sort of special operations or infantry your probably going to return to your lazy ways after basic.
Correct me if Im wrong but this is what I have seen, the motivated people will stay motivated and fit while the others just get lazy.

This. The only thing that lifting ever accoplished for me is that I am slightly better at the buddy carries, and sometimes we do team building PT that involves carrying heavy shit, but that's like maybe once a month.

You will run a lot, and it's embarassing as fuck to the guy who always falls out. Also doing pushups is harder than you would think. So just run, trust me.

I just want to escape the white trash shithole I live in, anon. I was supposed to have til June but my recruiter asked if I wanted to go earlier and I said yes without thinking.

Lost 150 lbs so far. Currently 5'10, 200lbs.

I can run a decent 1.5 and am decent with push ups (30 in two minutes with a couple second rest on my knees)

It's just the sit ups that are fucking me.
>>

Not an american but is that really all it takes? Like if you're in good shape do they just take you no questions asked? Where I'm from it takes like a 6-12 month to get in even if you're in good shape just because our army is like 12 people.

Kinda curious about this- do you need any real qualifications for anything?
>>
>>36443970
You can't rest on your knees in the apft, you need to be running 2 miles, and for the love of god need to be able to do situps. Start planks/crunch exercises, run farther, and do pushups everyday-allday.

If you don't give it 100% till ship you're FUCKED. I'm also shipping early May so gl.
>>
>>36444038
For basic infantry you just need a pulse

For better tech or mechanic jobs and such you do need some more brains
>>
>>36443141
I don't understand the concept of "group leader"... like you're a group leader at basic an then you become a peasant when you graduate? This is a foreign concept because everyone in my Corps is a leader..
>>36443172
> I'm off to basic in one month.
Like the fuckin blind leading the blind
>>36443403
Goddamn I hope you get to my unit so I can haze you until you puke fatboy.
>>36443532
The only sound advice in this thread.
>>36440945
Get good at operating under high stress, as long as you're I shape army basic will be skate. learn your job well, don't be a Motrin and Change Socks guy. Get good at manipulating heavy shit as you will have to fight hand to hand pretty often, a hip toss or just running through someone usually sets you apart from the crowd
>>
>>36444038
No, he's borderline failing for the easiest standards required to getting in. Especially for any job that requires heavy fitness rating.

Military is a bitch to get in through meps, but afterwards the exercise is just running/pushups/situps and it's up to you.
>>
>>36444038
>Where I'm from it takes like a 6-12 month to get in even if you're in good shape just because our army is like 12 people.

>do you need real qualifications for anything?

The United States military is the largest corporation on the face of the earth. It needs bodies to do everything from janitorial work, to food service, to computers, to shooting people.

You need to be at least average in fitness and intelligence, or above average in one of those two. Also, have a clean criminal record and no history of drug abuse, or at least the ability to lie about it.
>>
>>36444060
>need to be running 2 miles

>>
>>36445898
>>36445898
It absolutely is

Corporations are the life blood of the nation and the wealth flows back

It's far superior to letting in unlimited Muslims and letting them rape and pillage as they please like Yurocuckolds do because they don't want to be labeled racist
>>
>>36446009
IT was such a burden before corporations came along because no countries existed.
>>
>>36440945
Dude military is easy mode.

Do exactly this and you'll be fine.
>be able to do 10 pullups
>be able to do 100 situps
>be able to do 100 pushups
>be able to run atleast 3 miles

That's it, you don't have to worry about time/speed just be able to do these all within a days time frame.

You'll be better off than half the people you go to basic with, and when you get to basic you can worry about speeding up for the PT test.

Excellent point. Tried to run a 1.5 today, did it in 18 fucking minutes. Got a stitch in my side halfway through and ended up having to speedwalk most of it.
