Wearing glasses in the gym.

Honest question(s) as stupid and newb as it might sound

Any of you guys work out wearing glasses?

Do you find it awkward?
And if you don't, do you think its a complete newb thing to do?

I have pretty week eyesight, ca't get laser for about a year because of a torn retina, wear contact when going out or doing something physical like sparring or climbing but a bit too expensive and wasteful (they annoy me so i only really wear them for a few hour) to wear the 3-4 times a week id be in the gym.
>>
>>36394139
I wear glasses in the gym. For weights it's fine, for cardio i have to take them off or secure them with elastic. That's it.
>>
I don't wear glasses, but when thinking about the exercises I do I don't think they'd get in the way if I did. they might get in the way when you sweat
>>
>>36394139
>I have pretty week eyesight

you have a pretty WEAK brain as well, anon

I suggest you workout the most important part of your body:the brain, as well.
>>
>>36394139

>>
>>36394168
forreal, this nigga thinks wearing eyeglasses is as bad as wearing sunglasses in the gym
>>
>>36394149
I do sparring once a week and pretty much zero cardio otherwise, so I probably need to be focusing more of my gym time on that. On a treadmill or that it's fine, i pretty much just go without them because all thats in front of me is a wall but yeah... thats probably going to be my biggest issue.

Before I got my eyes lasered they made me go without contacts for 2 weeks (everyone has to do this before Lasik).

For 2 weeks I would slav squat in front of the dumbell rack and get super close just to see the #lbs. I looked like a fuckin' jackass, but at least I wasn't wearing glasses at the gym.
>>
i wear glasses when I lift
it's not so bad
no who the fuck cares

if it really bothers you go buy some 1-day contacts and wear them while you lift

I probably more educated than you or anyone in your linage.
>>

>>36394178

Just to clarify, I dont care what other people at the gym think. I was directing that at people who need glasses on an everyday basis but dont at the gym. If they found it a stupid thing to do.

I just didnt explain it very well.

How about wearing sunglasses at the gym if the ceiling lights are crazy strong that are near blinding when laying on the benchpress?
>>
>>36394139
I work out with glasses, only real issue I have is that sometimes I sweat on them and it is annoying when I have to stop what I am doing to clean the sweat off.
>>
what the fuck is wrong with wearing glasses when you lift
>>
I only train on gymnastics rings and work my legs doing explosive squats and lunges along with some single leg variants.

My glasses come off and stay off at warm up.

Nothing at all. I don't know anyone who bothers with contacts at the gym. they either go without if their vision isnt too bad, or wear them.

I don't wear my glasses in the gym. They're just a nuisance and you can imagine how uncomfortable they'd get when you do heavy exercises that require you to be at 100%. Fuck, even pants/shorts alone get in annoying when i'm doing squats. My dream is to one day lift naked i.e. get a decent home gym.

The only downside to not wearing your glasses in the gym is not being able to properly check out all the gym qt's.
>>
>>36394139

Plenty of people wear glasses in the gym, I don't see what the problem would be.

For your own good, stop woryng too much about what other people would think.
>>
>>36394139
Unless you have some faggot glasses that don't sit on your nose and slip down, working out with glasses is no problem. I do weight training with glasses, I shoot with my glasses, I ski with my glasses and I used to do taekwondo with glasses (took them off for sparring, though).
>>
Any eye laser surgery fags in here that can describe their experience? Did you get 20/20 vision afterwards?
>>
>>36394393

>>
I'm 23 years old and just started glasses past month. Realized my eyesight is actually pretty shit lol. Don't know how I functioned in real life. Now I can't deadlift or bench without them because I lose all sense of focus and concentration.

For cleans I take them off.

For muay thai practice I also don't use them.

I'm one of those people that looks a lot better with glasses on than without, so I don't worry about it. I've only gotten compliments on them and I reckon I went up a few numbers on the x/10 face scale.

Or not...

- they tell you it's painless, but it aint. eyes burn like the fire of a thousand suns for the first day.
- they dont tell you that your vision is supposed to go black during the procedure...i thought i was fainting and stared freaking out
- takes about a week to recover, slept on the couch for most of it so that i didnt roll over and rub my eyes
- after a week your vision should stop being blurry but you'll need to use lubricating eye drops a couple times a day until about 12 weeks
- ended up with better than 20/20, totally worth it

ALSO, the newer Lasik procedures correct for "resolution" by that i mean that your cornea has small little bumps on it - it's not a perfectly smooth surface. The laser makes it perfectly smooth. So you actually end up with better than 20/20 vision and it's like IRL 4k resolution while normies are stuck with 1080p.

Worth it 100%.

Holy fuck that sounds amazing.

Is the recovery really that long though? Also, what age did you do it? I want to get the procedure done now but I'm told you're supposed to wait until you're at LEAST 21 years because up until you're 30 your eyes are still "growing".

A lot of people will say shit like, "I had the procedure done and I just walked out of there and I could see better right away!" They're fucking wrong. Like, some stuff in your periphery will look super clear right away but for the most part your vision will be pretty blurry for the better part of a week. Then even after that week your eyes will still be super blurry in the mornings and at night unless you're using lots of moisturizing drops. This should only last about 12 weeks. As far as night driving goes...well you're pretty much fucked. There's so much more glare (even worse than glasses) that driving on the highway at night is like hitting warp speed in the Millennium Falcon. The night glare will disappear (for most people) anywhere from 3-6 months after the procedure. A small percentage of people will never recover their night vision.

The recovery sounds long, but you don't really notice anything but the dryness after a week and it only hurts for a day or two after. I had mine done when I was 23 and my prescription had been stable since I was ~20yo. You can pretty much get it anytime around that age as long as your prescription has been the same for a year or two. I know a girl who had it done at 16yo. and she had to have it done again at 22yo. because her eyes kept growing. So, there are doctors out there who will perform it earlier, but it's not worth it.

They measure your cornea thickness and the acceptable range is about 450um - 600um I think (?). Once you do Lasik they shave off about 10um per magnitude of your prescription (ex. -5.0 = 50um of your cornea lasered off) and if you have it done once you obviously have less cornea right? So it can be hard to do Lasik a second time if your corneas are too thin after the first procedure. Otherwise you have to do the PRK procedure which is a little more complicated than laser and you don't want to get that if you don't have to.

You gotta have glasses for two years? Shit.

My vision has been garbage since I was 22 and I never got glasses. Here I am at 28 and I have to squint at everything.
>>
>>36394310
This.

Sometimes people need to wear glasses to actually see things. So fucking what? I could wear contacts, but I wear glasses for convenience. Thinking about getting some dailies that I can wear at night.

Before the surgery I was -5.50 in one eye and -4.75 in the other (that's prescription for contacts though). So with glasses it was about -6.00 and -5.25.

They can correct anywhere from -1.00 to -10.00. Although chances of "success" decrease marginally if you have a prescription closer to the -10.00 cutoff. By "success" I mean that, at least this is what I was told, was that people with such shitty eyes often regress after the surgery. So, if you are corrected from a -10.00 you might have 20/20 for the first week or two after surgery and then you could drop back down to a -1.00. But I was told this doesn't happen that often and they over-correct your eyes anyway to compensate for any regression - hence the "better than 20/20" if you happen to not regress. I was told my eyes not only didn't regress at all, but they actually healed to about 15% better than what they expected. So really depends on the person.

I had a small astigmatism in my left eye but apparently it's not an issue now. I don't know off hand if it can correct astigmatisms (I think there is an entirely different procedure for that if your astigmatism is bad enough) but in my case it all worked out in the end (partially because I think mine was really minor).

>>36396971
Free touch ups for life. It's a non-issue. Plus, I still have plenty of cornea left.

>>36396990
Glasses for 2 years? Nah b. Just have to be stable for a year or two. If you got glasses at 22 and your eyes have been getting progressively worse until you're 28 then you're fucked. If you just always had shitty eyes and didn't bother to get glasses until you were 22 then your prescription probably won't change and you should be fine. They might change the way they do the procedure based on your age though.
>>
>>36396821
What's the deal with the night-driving being such a problem? It's not much of a problem with glasses (obviously), so why would it be a problem after Lasik?
>>
>>36397090
Lights cause flare ups. Its like when you aren't wearing glasses and see a bright light.
Its a problem night driving because head lights and street lights.
Usually goes away though. Went away from me and my cousin.

I honestly don't know why it happens. My eyes were even sensitive to moderate sunlight for a while after. I would wear sunglasses on cloudy days. Now it's fine, I just squint for a bit but my eyes adjust to the sunlight eventually. So getting Lasik done probably increases all sensitivity to light. All I can say is that it made night driving worse than it was when I had glasses or contacts. It's better now, but it took a long time to get better. I can handle cars on the freeway, but my LED alarm clock in the pitch black of my bedroom still feels unbearably bright. Some people are not so lucky so definitely talk to your doctor about the risk before you have the procedure done.
>>
>>36394139
I have a lazy eye and astigmatism, so if I don't wear glasses in the gym, not only can I not see, but I also look retarded as shit

I wear glasses at the gym. I keep them tight so they always stick to my face. The only problem is sometimes when I go hard they fog up and I'm temporary blinded.

You won't totally "lose" your night vision! I mean, the glare and the halos might never go away for some people, but you can still see in the dark no matter what. >>36399179 sounds like the most plausible explanation.

It's not really 12 weeks recovery. It's 1 week recovery before you can go back to your normal life. "12 weeks" is just when the dryness is supposed to stop. So you take 1 week off and then for the next 11 weeks you have to put eye drops in maybe twice a day. Your vision fully recovers after 1 week.

I used to wear glasses, plastic, thick-framed ones.

-Bent over DB rows: glasses must be off, or they will come off

-Squats over 3 reps: Glasses will probably slide off on rep 4 and 5

-Diddlies more than 3 reps: Glasses will slide off when putting rep 3 back down.

I just got LASIK on Friday, March 11. So far it burns a lot and my eyes are dry.

You won't be able to read any books or texts on your phone or surf the internet for 4 or 5 days. Anything up close will be super blurry. Distance gets pretty clear right away. I got cleared to drive the day after the surgery but I didn't feel comfortable until about 5 days later. The blur isn't constant. One second things will be crystal clear and then you blink and it's blurry again. I sat on the couch and listened to podcasts all week and I could see well enough to be home alone and cook myself meals and wipe my ass and stuff. It will feel like there's an eyelash in your eyes but you absolutely CANNOT touch them so (I found) that your eyes feel a little stiff after a week. It's inconvenient, but it's not that bad.
>>
>>36394139
I usually wear mine, if you have them fitted correctly its fine. If I get really sweaty or they're bothering me I'll take them off sometimes.
