Fuck you and your memes. I'm joining a Crossfit club and becoming a beast. 5 rep compound lifts are fine and all but I want to transcend beyond just a gym rat and become an elite athlete. I'd rather bust my ass in a crazy ass workout with snatches, pullups and sprints all supersetted than do 5 reps, walk to the fountain, do another 5 reps, rest for 3 minutes, and so on.

Hate all you want.

Any Crossfit bros on /fit/? Get in here and tell us your story.

If you want useful strength go do fucking calisthenics, BWF, Parkour or some other shit that actually makes you strong and be able to move in useful ways. Fucking b8 spastic, stop blaming compound lifts for your failure to make it.

Crossfit will not make you elite at anything, just mediocre at everything

There are many reasons not to do cross fit but few to do it. What you train for is what you get better at. If you want to be good at cross fit then go be good at cross fit. If you want to be a "beast" then the simple answer is don't do cross fit. The only benefit cross fit gives you is free hospital food while you recover from
your shoulder surgery

Those guys are the best of the best and most of them don't even do crossfit, they just do Olympic lifting + endurance work. Your average crossfitter doesn't look like that.

>>36121145
This. Just join a strongman/powerlifting/weightlifting gym and do cardio/HIIT + muscular endurance work. You'll actually get strong as well as good cardio and are much less likely to hurt yourself, plus it will be cheaper.

Gym equipment and workouts: designed to safely work specific muscle groups if te technique is done correctly.

Crossfit equipment and workouts. GUISE GYM HAS NO FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH U WANT FUNCTIONAL STRENGHT DO POWER CLEANS WITH A SLEDGEHAMMER LOADED 2,5 LMAOPL8 ON A SCOOTER ON A BARBELL BALANCING ON A BALLOON . WHO NEED TECHNIQUE LOL NOW CLEAN AND JERK 12 PL8 BECAUSE EACH PL8 WEIGHTS 10LBS AND LOOKS LIKE 45 LBS

The crossfit culture is based on a meme and amongst the thousands of participants perhaps 0,1% knows what they are doing. The rest is just paying for an overpriced semi-gym to do meme workouts that make them feel better when talking to people actually making gains. They now have witty comebacks to snap at actual athletes that critize their form by saying 'WELL I R FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH AND U NOT LOLOLO'.

I'm not saying crossfit is bad, if you do actual thought trough workouts that are designed to make you better at your goal (muscle gain, better athlete etc.) then you are doing nothing wrong. But there already is a place for that, and it's called a gym.
>>
>>36120828

I've done weightlifting at a few cf gyms over the last few years. Never done cf programming or workouts but I'm around it on a near daily basis so I've got some actual perspective on it.

OP, if you are new to lifting, you're going to make shit gains and/or hurt yourself. This is almost a given with new people in cf because it requires such a base of lifting and athletic experience to be able to perform everything passably well and you spend comparatively little time on each movement that it will take a very long time to become proficient at these movements. Despite this, you will not he able to stop yourself putting more weight on the bar than you can do safely because the environment and programming both pressure lifters to do so. In three+ years of experience I'd say over 90% of crossfitters are using too much weight for barbell movements (and for many, am empty bar is literally too much weight to be snatching when you are incapable of even a basic squat with proper positions) and doing this day in and day out will wear you out and likely injure you in some fashion.

It's really not worth it. Unless you have a very solid foundation of athletics and lifting experience, you will probably stall quickly and make little progress. Less than 10% of the people I see in cf on a regular basis are actually improving, and none of them started with it. The biggest problem with cf is that it is very mismatched to the population of people who actually do it - typically 25-40 year old office types who might have played sports in high school, havent done anything athletic in years but consider themselves too hardcore for zumba. Needless to say they don't do well.

You should rethink your decision, or at the very least proceed with caution and do not lift with your ego.
>>

>Less than 10% of the people I see in cf on a regular basis are actually improving
So pretty much like regular gym-goers then?

>>
>>36122702

Yes exactly. But regular gym goers aren't putting themselves at a high risk of injury by performing movements far too advanced for their skill level, and they certainly aren't paying $1-200/month for the privilege

I honestly don't know what to think anymore. Today at CF we did "clapping squats". So basically we did a "clapping" with our knees when coming up from the bottom.

Is there any reason for this? Or should i quit?
>>
>>36122722
Well that's true. I think it depends on the individual CrossFit gym though. I haven't been to the local one, but I know a very accomplished weightlifter who normally trains at my gym and who competes at an international level, also coaches at the local Xfit box. So I'm guessing he's fairly qualified.

>>36122734
If that's what I imagine it is, then it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
>>
>>36122734
Pics or it didn't happen. I find it hard to believe an organization that is renown for bad fitness habits would do something that brazen. I refuse believe there is no balm in Gilead.
>>
>>36122734
>Is there any reason for this?
to minimize gains while maximizing injury risk while applying dumb memery. the principle of crossfit.

honestly that is really fucking stupid, and highway to snap city. the more your knees are turned inward, the more snap city.

intentionally touching them is unbelievably stupid. please post pics if you have them
>>
>>36122746

The one I've been at now is run by one of the top weightlifting coaches in the country. It's no different. He doesn't waste his time explaining the finer points of the snatch to some late 30's woman who couldn't find three white lights at home depot when he has actual athletes to be coaching. The crossfit instructors handle them and he works with the weightlifters.
>>

yes, it is that bad. people can achieve good fitness levels while spouting some broscience or using terrible form.

examples for moderate amount of broscience are rich piana or scooby (while the bro science of those guys will probably not hurt you, it is still broscience).

and for buff people with shitty form, just look at 90% of pro bodybuilders squatting.

if you do something for long enough, you are going to get good at it, even if you are pretty retarded.

also gear really helps... and crossfit is probably THE sport with the most roiding chicks by far. just saying.

Crossfit is the sports of real athletes, it makes ypu strong and sexy.

In two years I have done crossfit, one year as a trainer, I have never have hurt myself.

Your girlfriend is thin, which is good, but not impressive as you seem to suggest.

Also, I've never seen anyone get hurt doing ordinary weight training, much less myself.

Crossfit can be really satisfying if you go to the right gym. Every CF has its own vibe and its own trainers and its own standards. I went to an excellent one that was almost entirely barbell and bodyweight all the time and I got really lean. But I know a different gym across town where they don't enforce good form, so I'd never go there.
