I use the pussy pad on the instructions of my physio because of my fucked up, instable shoulder. Thick padding makes the bar in a less awkward position to hold and gives you less anterior displacement of the humeral head, making it safer for someone like me. Plus it *is* more comfy. Pls aware me on how it makes form worse. Only argument against it I can think of is that being able to feel less precisely where the bar is on the back might lead to some people placing it slightly crookedly but this is pretty easily fixed by looking in a mirror

What do you mean by tightness? If you mean isometrically contracting your upper back muscles to stabilise your core and keep your thoracic spine rigid, then a slightly squishier surface that the bar is on should make little to no difference. You don't need to actually pull the bar into you, that's just a cue coaches use to get people to flex properly.
Plus under really heavy loads, I'd say the compression on the pad would make it just about as solid as the bar, just spread over a slightly wider surface area. I can see why you wouldn't use one in a powerlifting competition or something but just in everyday training, I see no reason why you shouldn't use one if you like them.

It is detrimental to your grip/ and squat. Since the bar is not on a stable place on your back it requires you to exert effort to keep it in place, which as you should know is bad for your arms. And good luck trying to do anything remotely heavy with a pad.

My thoughts on gym stuff like lifting belts,knee condoms and gloves were always that I can see it being useful but at the same time I don't want to have weak muscles or tendons and if it means stalling so that my grip or lower back can catch up I'd rather do that than use some stuff that prevents me from getting stronger.
The bar tampon is different it's only to have the iron not hurt you it doesn't help you with the lift in any way as far as I'm concerned like with a high bar you want and need the bar to sit on your traps and the tampon pushes your neck to the front potentially hurting you and for low bar t's not long enough to be useful.
I never used it though so maybe it helps,, but it's not my job to coach people who do their own thing if they need help they can ask.

Also double labral tears here, no surgery yet. Did you squat before you had surgery? I can get tight for a rep or two but my shoulders are so loose they'll occasionally pop like they're sublaxing or something which hurts and makes me miss my reps. Also it just doesn't feel good for them at all, with a pad though it feels manageable.
