You know what's wrong with the idea of just lifting to lose fat? There is no variability to your workouts. You can't decide to do twice as many sets of everything because you want to burn more calories. That's why you HAVE TO DO CARDIO: You can decide to run an extra half-hour or ride an extra hour and it's not going to incapacitate you for the next three days.
