Why arent more of you guys pursuing massive quad and core gainz through cycling in 2016?

Because every time I bike, my nutsack area goes numb. It's uncomfortable as shit. I love cycling, but despite wearing padded cycling shorts, I haven't been able to overcome this. Any tips?
>>
>>35445116
You. I like you
>>
>>35445134

Adjust the height of your seat? Usually it's because you put pressure on a nerve.
>>
cycling is much better for your health then blasting and crusing
>>
>>35445134
have you tried not being fat?
>>
>>35445116
Since I guess I touched a soft spot and offended you, answer this for me.

Does cycling really gives you calf gains? Or is it just a joke? Answer that for me cycling genius.
>>
>>35445206

memes gone stale breh
>>
>>35445195
Not that Guy, but muscle insertions to a degree are genetic. If its in your genetics, yes it will build nice calves.
>>
>>35445134
Could be a shitty saddle, the saddle angle, the reach or maybe you're just a fat fuck. I'm a fat fuck myself and I don't get numb testicles, riding for about an hour.
>>
>>35445195
Proper pedaling form and pedaling in circles rather than just pushing will give you monster calves.
>>
>>35445116
Are you just going thread to thread posting this? I've seen it in like 3 threads in a few minutes.
>>
>>35445326
It's new pasta.
Now don't ever fucking reply to me unless you're contributing to the thread.
>>

yes, they have monster calves. I do triathlons and I can spot the bikers who passed me as I run by them because of their fuckhuge calves.

Quality posts boys, really improving the quality of this board.

>Proper pedaling form and pedaling in circles rather than just pushing will give you monster calves.
You've just described the opposite of proper pedalling form according to most people. Doing as you say helps to build some of the lower leg muscles tho.

The trick is to get the seat high enough that you extend your foot a bit.
>>
>>35445134
My gym finally got 2 new bikes with saddles that are lowered/indented, which helps avoid the numbness. Which is nice, since I recently started doing cardio on rest days. On the old bikes I had the same problem as you.

yeah literally not going to happen
>>
>>35445678
Wrong as fuck. I've been using the cycling machine in the gym and it really works my quads. They're getting tone as fuck by doing them so idk what you're talkin bout.
>>
>>35445778
toned means marginal muscle growth accompanied by fat loss making the muscles more visible.

not what I would call massive gains
>>
>>35444967
Cycling is awesome Op. Going up to Santa Cruz later this year. I cycle the hills of San Francisco all the time. My legs are built like tanks. My core looks great. I also run alot. There is more to a nice body then just big arms. Over all performance is what really matters. Whats the point of being 250 pounds muscle built if you can't enjoy your wind. I rather be able to enjoy being in shape.
>>

Cycling's 10/10
>>
>>35446084
Oh...

Well in that case, guess you can't get gains from cardio.
>>
So does cycling help build calves

I love cycling but its not as fun as running IMO. Climbing sucks but its worth it for the descent. Cycling just takes too long. I can go for an hour logn run, get totally in the zone and get a great workout. For biking, I have to go out for at least 3 hours.
>>
>>35446536
Very true. I cycle when I want to relax and zone out in the evening. It's a great warmup to the gym if you're close by and not in the hood.

They also burn on average 6000 calories a day during a grand tour like the Tour de France.

Pro cyclists eat more than even the fattest /fit/izen

it's not all about weight, but it helps

a workaround is go in a standing position for a couple of minutes. I find myself good with 8 minutes sitting - 2 minutes standing. the standing time is enough to let the blood flow back and prevent balls numb for the following 8 minutes

You fat people are seriously pathetic
>>
>>35445134
I've cycled pretty long distances (max 8 hours/day) on not very expensive bikes before. The trick is a good seating position and a good saddle. The thing that causes the numbness is the flow of the blood, so you want to take pressure off of it. Therefor you should get a bike where you don't shit straight, but lean forward quite a bit so the weight is mostly on your arms. It won't take off the pressure off entirely, but it makes it more comfortable in combination with a good saddle and the cycling shorts.
>>
>>35446915
You want to preserve energy to go far, instead of fucking around standing and sitting.

Got news for you, son: You want to be an exceptional cyclist? You need to spend the Fall and early part of the Winter in the gym, building up your general strength. After that you can start doing hill repeats, Force reps, Tempo rides, Threshold rides, Anaerobic Intervals, and Sprint Intervals. If you don't fuck up by June you'll be a beast and crush all your buddies on every ride.

>>35445678
Short hill repeats, several times a week, turning the cranks at 50-60rpm more or less as hard as you can will build your legs. Not as effectively as leg press or squats in the gym, and truth be told many racers will spend the Fall months in the gym doing precisely that, but there are plenty of racers out there who just climb hills all Fall and Winter, and over a number of years they get huge legs. Personally, I'm gym-going-master-race, I've got 2 more weeks of it after this week, and I'm leg-pressing 968 pounds for 3 sets of 20 reps on a 45-degree sled (968*sin(45)=684 pounds, by the way), and my thighs are like tree trunks. I defy anyone on /fit/ to be able to do those 3 sets the way I do them without wrecking themselves.
>>
>>35445631
Indoor pro cyclists have the big legs. The spooky skeletons do it for hill climbs and shit.
>>
>>35447911
When you train for the specific requirements of a competitive sport, you don't do it for 'aesthetics', you do it for maximum performance, and additionally, pro riders in particular, have very full weekly schedules, and don't want to spend any more time in the gym than is absolutely necessary. Also, adding extra weight in muscle purely for appearances doesn't make the bike go faster, so it's just not done.
>>
>>35447829

>>
>>35445037
>>35444967
Funny thing is. The sprinters get those big quads by lifting weights.
>>
>>35447940
Nigger, any extra weight you carry with you up a hill is gonna drag you down in the long run. That's why tour de drugs cyclists are hungry skeletons. Track cycling is about explosiveness because the bike has no gears which means you have to put in crazy force in short time to get it going. Once you're at a good cadence track bikes are actually easier to maintain speed with because they're slightly more aerodynamic, no cables, levers and deraillers and have even thinner tyres than road bikes.
>>
>>35447908
Nobody cares about your leg press dipshit. How much do you squat with IPF legal form?
>>
>>35447829
didn't kill your gains, but it sure killed your leg hair.

Remove padding. Padding squish its way into the soft tissue, where arteries and veins are, cutting off blood flow. What you want is as small contact patches that you can stand, as directly on the sitting bones as you can. Source: personal experience and I read it somewhere. In other words, take with a grain of salt, but worth a shot. I toured 500km (8500 vertical meters) over four day, on the saddle that came with the bike (a Kona single speed) wearing tracksuit bottoms and cotton boxer briefs a couple of years ago without issue. Too much padding, meanwhile, fucks me up.

What's correct cycling form?
Should your knees be fully extended when at the bottom of the pedal motion?
>>
>>35449726
>What's correct cycling form
varies person to person

whatever lets you cycle without injury = correct

>Should your knees be fully extended when at the bottom of the pedal motion?
if you're at full extension while seated, you can't raise out of your seat for additional power

if you never raise out of your seat, you can keep your seat higher

again, it really depends on your preference and the kind of terrain you encounter

since i ride in a city, i set my seat height according to how much of my foot touches the ground while seated
