I do take my health extremely seriously though, and this is the UK you can't get within 1000 yards of a building site without wearing 8 dustmasks, a hard hat, 4 pairs of gloves and a sports cup.

Ahhhhhhhhhh I see, what is that like as a career? Most lads moan about "health and safety bollocks" but I don't have a chip on my shoulder about it. Theres a reason its there and a reason why more people don't get seriously hurt or killed.

How's the firefighting?

Firefighting, when it happens, is the best job in the world

H&s is boring and people dislike (I don't know why, you keep them in a job longer and if they do something they're not supposed to they won't get dick in compensation from anybody) you but the money is good and some of the more specialist fields are really well paid. Also no student debts etc

Sounds like a good career. Firefighting is definitely top of the tree in terms of a manly and noble job.

How do you mean retrain then??

Aye I agree Lad, I think there are quite a few dickish H&S guys out there though who really go overboard and become little napoleans and just delay a job rather than assist in keeping it safe. But you sound chill.

I'm not him but from what i know from couriers its down to timing. The hire ups and tax payers feel the same way you do so they put ludicrous time restrictions and schedules on the deliveries, literally down to the second. On top of that you have angry dogs, angry people that you must hand bills to, crack heads schizos and general weirdos, just look up the mortality rate among delivery people. Oh and if you fuck up its a federal offence.

So no its not a difficult job in itself but any simple task performed in a pressure cooker environment is going to be stressful.

Mail workers walk miles and miles a day and do the same repetitive thing each day usually at terrible hours.

OP and Demolition bro here, what sort of area of construction you in?

Don't be popping caffeine then keeping yourself up all night. Make sure you get the right amount of sleep for the job, not sleeping properly causes the most accidents I would say.

Just keep a good routine, make sure you're in bed at a certain time, eat well during the day and wait til your body hardens up to the rigours.

Your body will adapt.

I always say all builders could all be in pretty fucking decent shape just from the job alone if it wasn't for all the shit they eat, the smoking they do and the alcoholism that comes with the territory.

Your future will consist of OK pay, but you will have to "prove" yourself to your boss by working over 40 hours per week. To show your "dedication" you will be expected to do minimum 50 hours, with pressure to go to 60+

There will be no respect from people actually doing groundwork and making money for the company (assembly, fabricators, machinists, etc...). You will have to always take the high road and show the utmost respect to everyone else to get a chance to be taken seriously over time. Prepare to be labeled "some kid fresh out of school" for about 15 years after you graduate.

My advice is to become an expert in standards (AISI, ANSI, ASTM, etc...) and find a job with a small-medium sized company.

I plan to get enough income through selling fur and meat from hunting to live on. I won't need too much money because I live rurally in a cabin. I don't own the cabin yet but I'm working on that. I only pay 35 USD a month in rent. I live in an area where it's cheap/free to hunt most fur animals because nobody cares about it anymore. Food is free because I hunt the meat and there is very little expenses because of the lifestyle. This winter I've been working on my tanning skills, and have made a dog fur coat that is keeping me warm at the moment. No need for /fa/ bullshit out here. Don't have a doge right now because Dogbro died this summer, RIP. As someone from Alaska who's tried damn near every job here. Fishing really isn't that bad (I've seined, crabbed, gil-netted e.t.c.). Most fisherman over exaggerate what it's like out on the water to sound tough since no one else is out there watching. Also I know plenty of you fucks that lie about how much they make and can barely scrape coin once tax time comes around. And no one eats seafood while out, no captain is retarded enough to let his crew eat profit unless it's some sort of celebration.

I know a lot of fishermen working in the Atlantic. It is common to eat bi-catch (no profit so why not) rather than to throw it all back out. Apparently it saves money.

I am a student studying Classics with a strong focus on Ancient Greek history.

I would suggest that this is the ultimate /fit/ profession. And yes, the quality of my research allows me to call it a profession.

I spend my days studying Greek art, which often revolves around the physical perfection of men like Hercules. I have studied the chiseled form of over 300 statues of Hercules and written multiple detailed theses about what they mean to the larger philosophy of western society. I have spent more hours considering the impact of Hercules' triceps on Plato and his larger views of the Universe than most of you have prepping your fucking peanut butter smoothies. I'm a delivery driver for Waitrose. I basically just drive around London all evening listening to podcasts and music and get out of the van every twenty minutes to lug a dozen crates of bottled water up to some rich cunts apartment.

It's actually really chill. I get really cheap food in the company canteen for easy bulking. I get to spend my working day by myself without a boss over my shoulder. I get to see a lot of london and if I get a break between drops I can go grab a couple double cheese buggies at maccas.

It's a stepping stone and not where I wanna be but it'll do me for now.

When I started it was a bit of a kick in the dick. I would park fucking half a mile from my drop because I was a pussy about it.

After a while you realise you can stick the van pretty much anywhere (apart from red routes and some double yellows) and stick the hazards on and you're golden. There's a few areas in central where there's basically nothing but red routes and pay and display bays where you basically have to get a ticket but the company knows this and just pays them.

I've delivered to a few dudes who were obviously gay and a few times I've gotten an obvious fuck vibe from them.
Like they'll be extra friendly, make an effort to spark up conversation, be kind of flirty etc... One of them was really good looking and built too but I'm not gay enough to risk my job on that.

With women it's harder to tell. One time a woman answered the door soaking wet in her skimpy dressing gown... She seemed disappointed that I wasn't one of the big black drivers.
Some milfs kind of stand a little too close, ask a lot of questions. It's too risky to do anything more than flirt back a little. One phone call about harassment to the depot and I'm out of a job.

Then there are the older ladies who are lonely as fuck and just want to talk to someone. They'll talk your ear off if you let them. Hell they'd probably suck my dick if I flopped it out. But no one wants that. You just have to make your excuses and get the fuck out of there.

Early days though. Only been at it 4 months. I figure it's only a matter of time before I get openly propositioned.

Demo bro here
Yes you are completely right, but I'm fortunate to live in the UK where full checks are carried out before any demo job. If need be we suit up in fully contained breathing suits that keep you pretty safe. Never usually comes to that.

Also you really really have to fucking roll around in that shit and smother your face with it to really get the full benefit of its carcinogens. Admittedly theres a few people who are super sensitive but for the most part if you don't disturb it it won't make your lungs turn to soup.

>>35427611
>>35427783
>>35428391
Also true to a certain extent but its really more about discipline and your ability to keep track. You can easily make sick gains like anyone else but for the most part, labourers unfortunately don't do this, they think because they do a physically demanding job that's more excuse to drink smoke and eat fast food on the go.

Take scaffolders, those cunts can't afford to be fat fucks, so theyre usually pretty active and fit guys anyway, any scaffolder you meet will guaranteed be shredded and strong as fuck.

Most construction workers could easily be in top form if they just didn't eat and drink so bad.

It's like any job really, just keep a good balance and be disciplined. You can just as easily become a slob working in an office sitting on your arse all day.

>>35428451
My ex GF actually. Ivonna Humpalot. Top lass she was.

>>35428778
I'm honestly baffled myself. The thing is trade and labour isn't really getting much young blood any more. Most of the old hands are guys too valuable to let go and they know it but they still just don't care.

Theres also a ridiculous culture of drinking in trade.
And that's coming from a recovering alcoholic.

>>35429543
Basically summed up the only people who shop at waitrose...gay men, posh milfs and old bints.
>>
>>35419558

>>
>>35430265
Just a global thing then? During the 11 weeks of training here in Chicago, we had weekly seminars on drinking and driving. Sometimes cautionary tales, gore videos, tales of recovery, etc; pushed that shit hard.

I didn't see the connection, but after working this job for two weeks, I want a drink more than anything. Thing is, I already had a day-full of mistakes just installing bolts and a dozen near-falls on ladders with no hang-over.

This better be worth it.
