So I have a home gym, basic power cage barbell set up, I've started using my flat bench for box squats but my ROM is slightly above parallel due to the height of the bench. I'm looking at building my own box so I can squat deeper into it. I don't compete in powerlifting so I'm wondering if there is any reason I shouldn't do box squats 100% of the time. The worst negative I've read is spinal compression, any others? Any feedback is welcome.

rip ops knees

Are you box squatting or squatting to a box?
Either way, it probably doesn't matter much. You can handle a bit more weight free squatting but box squats are easier to recover from (and thus you can push the volume a bit more) so its much the same in terms of results.

I use knee wraps if that changes your response. Also I'm not sure how box squats would be worse for knees...
>>35409912
I do exactly in pic related.
>high bar position
>squat down and sit on box
>pause
>squat back up

Right.
If you were to take that below parallel, it'd work jut fine. But lose the knee wraps, they defeat a lot of the advantages of pause or box squatting over free squatting. Use knee sleeves if you absolutely need a bit of support.

... Why will you just not squat without a box? Why do you NEED to squat with one?
>>35410192
It helps with form and it's just a different exercise than the regular back squat.
>>35410214
It helps with form if your mobility is fucking garbage. There is nothing that compares to a normal fucking full depth back squat. Grow some balls, do some mobility and squat normally you pussy
>>35410214
Not by much. If you're squatting the same way you would without the box, its really very similar to a paused squat. Which is fine.
If you go full Westside style its more different, but that's getting into competition territory.

so it seems that you know the answe to OP's question which is "why cant i box squat all of the time?"
would you care to actually elaborate or are you just going to swear
>>35410222
Do not, i repeat, do fucking not listen to this chump. If you are new to the excercise and are still getting used to the form and motion, then use whatever you can to ease into it until you're ready. The fastest way to fuck yourself out of gains is dumbfuck injuries doing lifts you're not ready to handle safely.
>>35410222
you know there are multiple factors which contribute to form right?
proper form for any task requires adequate relevant mobility for that task as well as proper motor control under different loads

>>35410284
The amount of excuses you make to not squat normally is disgusting to be honest. Why cant you just start out with 1pl8, and increase as you get more comfortable? I dont see the problem, do mobiltiy, squat light to get form down.

Anyone ripping on Box Squats is a moron.
Just watch this video. It explains why people box squat and how to do it the right way.
