The average height of people has shot up over the last half-century. Old folks at the moment are typically going to be from an era where deprivation was much more common and it dragged down the average height (an extreme example of this is Japan, where the elderly tend to be fucking tiny because they're all people who grew up either with the war shortages or the post-war famines while the youngest generation are way bigger than the average thanks to the adoption of a much more westernised diet).

I realized I was 5'75 a couple of days ago rather then 5'9. I'm crushed. When I googled 5'9 it comes at 176cm witch I am so I just rolled with it but NOPE, not even close.
