/fit/, getting first dumbbell set. Do I just get the cheapest things I can find or what?
well I imagine the cheapest dumbells you would find would be something like pic related
so yeah go ahead those will get you some sick gains
yes, cheapest dumbbells you can find. make sure to get adjustable ones or remain forever dyel.
>>35377536
Are you being serious?
I cant even tell anymore.
>>35377657
Not him but adjustable ones are actually pretty good and they don't take as much space
>>35377536
Yes. Get adjustable ones that you can add weights to as you progress. This is the most cost-effective way.
>>35377671
>>35377717
DON'T listen. They're trolling you.
You want a fixed weight dumbell and to progress with REPS instead if weight. Adjustable dumbells have a lot of issues with them, not what you want.
>>35377128
Do what you can afford. Ideally you want to be able to have multiple weights that way you can get stronger instead of just doing more reps. The adjustable ones are good because not much space is taken. It's what I had in my dorm until I moved out. That being said it doesn't take the place of an actual gym membership by any means
>>35377128
Buy something really nice and expensive, Anon. I'm sure you'll stick with the routine. 2016 will be your year!
>>35377358
My mum got these for Christmas
Two 1kg Dumbells, I don't think she wants to make any gains at all
>>35377128
Little witch academia is great, l wish there was more of it
>>35377744
Shut the fuck up.
OP, go to Scooby's website and read his shit/watch his videos on how to start lifting and just go from there.
>>35378150
>>35377128
If I were to get a set of dumbbells, I'd choose an adjustable pair in order to save space
Read the sticky. SS+GOMAD

You'll want dumbbells that fit olympic style plates, and a lot of them. The ones above are a bit expensive so try looking elsewhere.
>>35378439
How would the weight get lowered just by twisting a dial? Are people that stupid?
>>35379231
The dial is like a lock. It holds those plates on. When you dial it down and pick up the weights, the unneeded plates slide off onto the special rack
>>35379231
>>35379223
>not loading up 45lb plates and doing dumbell deadlifts
nigga
>>35379311
Dude wtf that's crazy
How heavy do they go up to tho?
>>35379326
5-pounds to 52.5-pounds in 5-pound increments
>>35378439
overpriced bullshit
get normal adjustable ones, OP
When I first started using dumbbells, I got some cheap vinyl ones that could hold up to 40lbs. They cost like thirty bux.
Then, once I'd maxed that out, I dropped a couple hundred for nicer ones with 100lb weight limits and plates.
>>35377657
He is serious, adjustable dumbbells allow progress, if you get a fixed weight set, you'll either stay DYEL forever or have to shell out on both money and space to get a nice range of weights
>>35379375
>ones that could hold up to 40lbs
> I dropped a couple hundred
wow, being trolled this hard
dumbbells are solid metal rods (they weigh like 2 kg), there's no limit for the average lifter how much plate weight you can put on them
Shipping on a pair of dumbbells must be out of this fucking world
>>35379440
I used to think that, but then I fond out it's free in my country for packages < 20 kg. So I just ordered a few ones, additional plates separately lol
So it's worth doing some research.
>>35379440
When I had some 60 lbs delivered, I was watching the Fedex guy hand truck them up my drive way with another guy. They were really straining themselves since they were skidding up the driveway all slow and you could hear their shoes scraping against the concrete. They were pissed as fuck.
It also cost me like $25 just to ship them.
why would you get a pair of dumbbells unless you were an intermediate lifter? you're going to shoot up in weight and still have baby weights after 3 months.
unless you are a dyel manlet low test then you'll stick with the same weights and make no gains
>>35377128
this gif is so qt
>>35380775
What if I get adjustable weights like everyone is suggesting?
>>35377128
if you go cheap
you end up paying twice
you'll have to rebuy them when they break
or
you'll have to buy a better pair eventually
same with everything its best to just invest in exactly what you need instead of trying to save money
What's the exercise where you guys really need the heaviest weighing dumbbells? (other than things which you can do with other heavy things, like farmer walks and shrugs)
>>35382673
dbell shoulder press for sets of 10 i need atleast a pair of 40kg
pair of 45kg if doing sets of 8
50's if im doing 5 and under
dont do dumbell bench press or any of that shit
