So it's just kind of intimidating at the moment to go to a place that's full of super fit people, because those are the kind of people who go to the gym here. But seriously, if I had to guess you probably want to eat more protein. Stick under 1600 calories a day, look up a bodyweight routine/add your weights to exercises you can when you feel comfortable doing so. Do this at least three times a week. Add stationary bike as the other anon said for as many of the other days a week as you can.

Or start a gym closer. If it's really a 1.5 hour drive, people may appreciate it.

If you are overweight and lead a sedentary lifestyle, you are eating too much. Your body does not need the amount of food you are putting in it to function. Because you are putting more food into it than it can use, it is storing it as fat. Either eat less, or move more. Ideally both.

Alright, certified grill here. There is no way you are 6 ft tall, overweight, and NOT losing weight on 1500 cals a day. You are not eating 1500 cals a day. Even with a sedentary lifestyle, 6 ft tall is so fucking tall, your TDEE can't be less than 1500 somehow. You gotta be real with yourself. Count EVERYTHING you eat, nothing is "free", if your friend offers you a Kitkat at work you best believe you bust out your phone and log it, idc how aspie it looks. Make sure you are absolutely correctly reading nutritional labels and carefully measuring your food. Don't just eyeball it. If somehow you are positive you're eating 1500 cals and not losing weight, then lower to 1200 cals. Chances are you will lose weight because you are a stupid fuck and didn't realize you were somehow miscounting. If not, lower to 1000 cals.

And just exercise dude. But if you really can't find the time, count calories for REAL and don't eat above your TDEE. Easy shit.

You probably are underestimating your calorie intake, if you are not weighing your food I can guarantee you are. At 6 feet you should be losing weight with that kind of intake. I lost almost 9 pounds in a month eating 1500 calories a day, granted I wasn't super strict and whenever I ate out (usually once every two weeks) I didn't care, but I don't think it was more than 2000 even then. But 9 pounds in a month just doesn't seem like a lot, and I do think it's because I literally don't do anything that burns calories. I work as an animator at a studio and sit for 10-12 hours a day. I could prolly continue and be strict with eating 1500 a day and lose weigh slowly but what I'm looking for is a good workout routine I can stick to for the rest of my life, because my career means I'll be sitting on my ass a lot more and want to stay healthy.

Listen, I'm disabled (back injury) and lead a sedentary lifestlye for the mostpart. But I do pilates twice a week for an hour and go for 45 minute walks twice a week. I only eat when I'm really hungry because that's all I need. You have to really be honest with yourself and realise when you're hungry and when you're not and make time for exercise. (Also make time for cooking/learning to cook)
Just one banana and a very small lunch (if I'm actually hungry), and then a medium sized dinner of homecooked food with a small portion of meat, some sort of starch and a large portion of veg.
I don't count calories, drink tons of water and have gone from 215 to 165 with a bunch of muscle and only have 15 to go! I'm rarely hungry, eat what I want when I like, and feel so much more in control.
Buy a magic bullet for at work, bring some fruit and spinach or whatever and that can be your breakfast/lunch twice a week, small steps like that will prompt you to paying more attention to what goes into your body. On the weekends make time for a short 45 minute walk with some hills and you'll get your cardio. Do pilates at home to strengthen your core and use your weights to do simple exercises until you get to the gym.

As a guy who could barely bench the bar when I started working out, I understand the feeling, but get the fuck over it. The whole "I'll go to the gym after I get in good shape" attitude keeps people out of shape. If you can go to the gym, go. If not, so bodyweight exercises. Add dumbbells for extra weight. One legged squats if you can do them, building lower body muscle will help you lose fat and also help your stomach look less fat

thanks, all of that is actually really good advice. The truth is my biggest problem is trying to stick with only healthy foods (never drink soda, no junk, no sweets, only home cooked meals made up of mostly just veg, whole grain pasta, brown rice, olive oil, beans, seeds etc.) for days on end, and then binge for a day or two, eating heaps of pasta, pesto and cheese or sweets (these are my guilty pleasures most of the time) I of course don't get ANY results because of this, and look back and have the impression that I did pretty good, but if I'm 100% honest with myself, being good for 5days and binge eating for 2 isn't good at all.

/fit/ may call me a fag or a shill for this, but you could try Insanity Max 30. It helped me lose quite a bit of weight and it only takes half an hour a day. Its similar to HIIT in a way, but it all depends on how much will you push for it. When i started i couldnt go through the first 5 minutes and by the time i was finished i was drenched. Just torrent the program and do it in your home or wherever you want. It's good.
