How is winter affecting your cardio habits, fit?

Cold air feels like it's freezing/burning my lungs when I run, especially HIIT. What are the best ways to avoid this?

Also it seems the board always talk about LISS or HIIT, but about running with moderate intensity, somewhat like HIIT but with longer distance at 50%, wouldn't it be a good balance between both training aspects?

I'm also interested to hear what kind of warmups/cooldowns stretching you guys do.

I've been running on the treadmill. Used to hate it cause it gave me shin splints, but now I turn the incline up to 4° or so and it feels great

I usually wait til the sun comes out, with running pants, a hoodie and gloves I'm usually fine. Breathing will hurt less if you are well hydrated, I've read that the pain is not from the cold per se, but the low humidity drying your trachea out.

LISS is about 60-70%, HIIT is 80-90%, sometimes higher. In between would be 70-80%, which is usually the pace which people do most of the time for training for track or cross country. If you want to improve your racing moderate intensity workouts are good, for a regular Joe it wouldn't be optimum probably. Although it would still be good for you obviously.

Don't be such a bitch. I run in just shorts all year round. Are/were you a smoker? Maybe just drink some water cuz the air is dry

I need to start running again. I think it'll be like this at first.

Not at all, don't have any problems. Don't wear a lot of clothes because you will be warm soon. Also make sure that hands, feets and head are warm.

I just use a treadmill on an incline. No it's not identical, but it's close enough.

I turn hiit into liss over time and then increment that way. Each routine i increase the interval length by 5 seconds. Currently at 6 minute mile pace for 2 minutes at a time for 8 intervals.
