Not really. They are somehow much less comfortable than squats. And you expect things to be easier

But they aren't.

Wanted to do 250kg 5x2

Did one set, hurt my forearm. Second used straps and it was shit. Third took the suit off, and it was really fucking hard.

240kg 3x2 raw on Tuesday was a piece o piss

Lads I've always benched with a flat back no arch or at least minimal, today however I decided to go for arch and "pushing" with legs after reading Juggernaut Bench manual.

My lower back is fucking killing me now is that normal (it's not the actual middle of the lower back where the spine is it's the two muscles on the sides if that makes sense) is this normal?

long story im a bricklayer and my traps are worked all day so i get allot of injuries there, i have had 2 in the past 3 months, they were both from doing chin ups with 30kg on a belt

OK lads, serious question:

1. I will never compete in powerlifting.
2. I *am* interested in strongman, and have access to a loading pin, log, full axle, and so forth.

Given these conditions, is there any specific reason why I shouldn't make the Zercher my primary squat and back squatting an accessory?

My logic:
- carryover to any sort of deadlift
- carryover to tire flip
- carry over to husafell stone
- carry over to conan's wheel
- carry over to sandbag carry
- carry over to stone load
- good for moving events like conan's or husafell where breathing is restricted

Likewise, is there any reason to do regular OHP versus axle clean and press/log clean and press?

I have access to a variety of Texas bars, a light (hollow) thick bar and a 30kg solid axle.
>>
>>35138759
I've only had the divebombing problem. That seems to have been sorted by improving my meme arch.

I'd assume the tightness problem would be alleviated by regular stretching, and more warm up sets/reps? No experience with that problem though, so I could very well be wrong.
>>
>>35138777
Is there any reason why you can't rotate main lift and accessory lifts throughout the year?
>>
>>35138809

Not particularly. I currently use Hepburn as my program (both power and pump routines), but am not averse to switching to something more strongman friendly, like Cube for Strongman. I also don't have any issues with back squatting, but I'd like the movement that has the best carryover to strongman and other activities (I am often a roadie for my musically inclined friends). I feel like I get more out of Zerchers than back squats, but if there's a reason to rotate, I will go with the wiser judgement.

Wow thtas'" amazign can I touch ur penis?
>>
>>35138836

You barely touch your chest, and it's not even for a second

This wouldn't pass in the IPF. I guess your grip width is solid, but the way the bar comes down is not in a straight line, but rather a sort of zigzag
>>
>>35138836
>giving the shitposters (you)a
Aaron, plus.

How's the benching feeling after the pop?
>>
>>35138766
>sort of jerked outwards like it was all tight in the inside, and then burst out in a circle,

...I have no idea how to picture this
>>
Aside from deadlifts, is there anyway to improve grip strength? I feel like the one thing keeping my measly 89.5kg deadlift is my grip strength. I've also been told straps will help, but then my grip wouldn't be getting any exercise at all.

On a related note, my DL form always feels weird, like I have to move the bar around my knees when it's coming down.
>>
>>35138777
I've heard a lot of strongman types say that the front squat and safety squat bar are the two best primary variations.

I'd just go with the axle for pressing if I were you.
>>
>>35138855
Actually really good. I kind of realized this is a % that is based on without chains. Just like how it goes to 190kg good mornings

>>35138854
So you're implying the bar path should be vertical?
>>
>>35138905

I think you're having reading comprehension troubles, I'm saying the bar path should be vertical while you're bringing it down, which it isn't.
>>
>>35138883

I do have access to an SSB and did a cycle of Hepburn on that to great success.

I assume strongman should involve squatting flatfooted?
>>
>>35138777
Fucking UrbanPrimalist, forgot about that guy. I would front squat a lot and heavily and back squat as a frequent accessory. As for regular OHP (or pushpress), probably train this more regularly, the axle all the time just seems like you'd be limiting yourself.
>>
>>35138836
Your pauses are probably fine, provided you don't get one of those really old judges that make the hand gesture and THEN say "press"

Bar path looks pretty smooth

Only issue is heels up and a little forward foot travel, but if you aren't competing IPF, only movement is an issue

>>
>>35139012

well if you're in the IPF, that Sarychev steal (you know the one) is going to have to go, if not I guess it's a good platform, but you're literally 6'4", how can you not have a good platform while benching?
>>
>>35138961
How could you possibly bench effectively in a vertical line? You start and finish above your shoulder socket but you touch somewhere near the base of your sternum.
>>
>>35139028

I think you are an absolute nonce. The point is, to bring down the bar vertically is to reduce the range of motion required to stabilise the bar for the triceps and shoulders, pressing in a slight diagonal is the natural reaction after this, which as we all now is how you press upwards.

Bringing the bar DOWN in the most efficient path is the goal as well as bringing it up.

Not him but a proper bench begins just below the nip and ends just above the nip.

This is the shortest SAFE bar path, it's almost a straight line.
>>
>>35139134
I assumed good form starts with your arms straight, over your shoulders, and then coming down it touches your sternum. That's really the only way I've seen people bench correctly ever.

Not saying my word is law, I've just never seen it any other way irl.
>>
>>35139134
It begins and ends above the shoulder if the arms are fully locked out. Touch point is individual, but it's at LEAST below the nipples if you want it to be safe.

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line so it would make sense to press the bar straight up. The only problem with that is that you will negate the strength of your front delts and instead put them in a very stressful, disadvantageous position. What you actually want to do is press straight up out of the bottom and then at the top third of the range, start allowing your elbows to flare out to the sides slightly while pushing the bar back just a bit. If you do this correctly you will lock out the bar where it started, about one to two inches above your nipple line. When viewed from the side, the perfect bench press rep will look like a J, instead of a straight line. If you press up in a straight line your arms will be tilted forward a few degrees, instead of perpendicular with the floor. This makes the lockout far harder than it would be if you pressed slightly back and took advantage of the strength of your front delts.

How do I re-ignite my lifting obsession?

My plan was to compete around this time this year but now looking towards next year.
>>
>>35139705
So in regards to the no chalk thing, there are a couple options:
1. Liquid chalk, works just as well and makes no mess.
2. (Have not tried yet) Supposedly a single sheet of paper towel will work.
3. Talk to the gym management and see if you can establish a verbal contract that so long as you THOROUGHLY clean up after yourself, you may use chalk.
4. New gym.

"Squats Squats Squats Squats SquatsSquats Everybody"

A training Diary, By Captain Poutine

With trepidation I approached the cage today. The plan was to try squatting until my injury started to hurt, then stop. Ended up getting all the way up to my 5+ and getting five. Could have pushed for six, but I'm kinda spooked by the injury, so I didn't mind leaving a few in the tank. The inury wasn;t pissed off at all, in any way. In fact the stretch at the bottom felt amazing.

I will say this though: that entire session probably yielded, without a doubt, the absolute ugliest and most abhorrent squat form I have ever seen. Taking a two week period between squat sessions is not something I can afford to do. Weight shifted to my toes a few times, the forward lean came back, I was just all over the fuckin place, until the third 5x10 set when I was finally able to get my shit together. Shows how much of a rookie I still am.

Feelin a little discouraged, but reminding myself that we all have shite sessions.

End of Captain's Log

My hip mobility is absolutely awful. I have been playing with widening my stance a bit. I'm paranoid that my lumbar rounds ever so slightly under load. Won't be able to play with it for a while thought.
>>
>>35141477

Super useful for helping your recovery, m8. Consider some fun low intensity stuff like hiking, jumping rope, or jogging.
>>
>>35141678
It's not that hard. You've got what, six weeks to your meet?
>>
>>35141709

Yep. I'll stick to conventional for now, but I promise I'll give it a go after the meet, how's that?
>>
>>35141729
If you're not confident you'll be able to deadlift conventional for the next few weeks I'd start training sumo stat
>>
>>35141791

I'm currently rehabbing with conventional at low weight. I'm confident I'll be at at least 90% by meet-time. I'm not going to be competitive anyway.

Can Beast take the bench record from Krill?
Keep in mind he benched 720 in training last year and almost made 725 in competition.

I feel really sad for this guy. He honestly believed he had it. Why else would he make an event? Why else would he go for the second try after being guillotined by the first?

Both of these things.

Depth is entirely my own fault, both of these videos are of me squatting without facing the mirror that I normally used to judge depth.

I've always been opposed to heels, because I figured I'd just get my mobility better, but now I realise I'm being an idiot, and should probably get some shoes.

Is this retarded, or is it actually an effective workout? I'm too new at this to know, and have never seen it before. The kid looks like he's got a lot of muscle, like a high school athlete, but damn if this doesn't look like something some retarded gym coach would come up with.
