Deadlifts and rows. You can also do ab rollouts with a barbell, lots of people do them with pullups but they don't help that much (I think mostly it's for other stuff like progressing to flags and that).

Do scooby's one for a bit or you can go to

I can do max 5 bodyweight pull-ups. Been training pull-ups for about two months now. WTF is going on.
I started at 4, and though my form is probably a bit better, i'm making no progress.

Been following the armstrong program. I always try till I fail and hang there for a few secs before giving up.

Help me fit

>>35134538

20 pullups without weight, 8 with 15kg

8 dips with 32.5kg
>>
I can do about 6 at bodyweight at 6'1 210lbs. Started at barely being able to do 1. Two biggest things I found helped were rows and one arm lat pulldowns. That and training pullups and chinups as often as possible.
>>
>>35134993
Probably your form is shit and you're not recruiting your back muscles. Or you are a fatass.
>>
>>35134538
~12 pullups, ~215lbs

I managed to convince my bosses that doing pullups is a valid way of diagnosing forklift scales, so I do 12-13 sets of pull ups every morning at work.
>>
Started training pull ups for a few weeks now. I did them for longer, but only now I realized that my form was complete shit. With correct form (Wide grip, going all the way down without letting your arms hang), I now manage five or maybe six. Now that I can do that amount, I have the feeling that things are improving pretty quickly. Before that it was really hard to see any improvements, as I literally just managed to go up once and than failed.
>>
>>35135043
Not fat, but I'm 2,05m/115kg.

I do them from dead hang and get my chin above the bar and I don't swing my legs.
Form advice?

pull ups: 5 reps with 25kg
dips: not really doing these but last time I did them was ~8 reps with I think 15kg but that was after bench.

Don't let your arms hang, I know there are many images floating around showing this kind of form, but you shouldn't do that, that's really shitty for your joints (elbow, shoulders). And you don't really need to get your chin above the bar. Going beyond 90° in your elbows doesn't really do much. I don't think it matters whether you do it or not, I usually go slightly higher then 90°, but not by much. Make sure to go up in a very slow and controlled way, don't shoot up, like you see in many videos.

>>35135094
Put your palms in the top of the bar for better grip.

Before going up contract your back muscles and incline your body slightly forward.

In the way up do scapular contraction due to recruit back. Don't pull exclusively with your arms.

Go down slowly and full ROM. When you can't get you chin above the bar, go till you can and go down focusing in the eccentric movement.
>>
>>35134538
190 lbs
17 pullups
No clue how many dips, maybe the same to be honest, I usually just do a 3x10, but I've stopped because they fuck my sternum

Nevagives are your best training for pullups. Most bodyweight exercises can't be supplemented with weights. What I would say is try to focus as much on using your back, like really feel the tension there. Often times people use their arms too much on back exercises, which is nice if you want to hit those too, but a strong back will be way better for pullups.

Can do 7 pullups weight free, or 4/5 with 5kg

Last time I went to the gym I did 8 dips with 17.5kg, without too much trouble.

Wtf is wrong with me, why am I so much stronger on dips? I was going down to 90, there's a mirror right next to me
>>
>>35135165
>half repper detected

Your arms hanging is fine, as long as your shoulders are tightened. And you should absolutely be going chin to bar, you're only doing half the movement if you're going to 90 degrèes. The upper part of the movement is arguably the hardest part.
>>
>>35135272
He's not even doing half the movement if he isn't doing arm hang or going beyond 90 degrees, he's doing like the middle third or quarter of the movement.

Quite a lot of people with the higher numbers itt will likely be doing similar tho if they haven't specifically trained for it.
>>
>>35135175
Your lats are not as bad as you seem to think, but do pullups with a pause (French pull ups I think they're called). I usually leave it to the last rep of a set.
>>
>>35135327
Just like everyone with a strong squat are half repping it, making +200kg increadibly easy?
>>
>Pullups
Did sets of 15 L-sit pullups the other day, i don't train them seriously though

>Weighted Dips

>>
>>35135368
And your BW is?
>>
>>35135350
To some degree yeah. It's the same everywhere tho, like people e stat online but so many do it irl too. Like it's quite common for someone to say they leg press or squat stupid numbers only for it to turn out they can just barely move the leg press plate or unrack the bar.

Talking to most people about pull ups is similar, suddenly everyone and anyone can bang out 10+ but it'll turn out to be kipping and half reps all over the place almost certainly.
>>
>>35135344
I kinda have to base my life around my lats because lolwidehips

I do those too, I just didn't know they had a name for those.
>>
>>35135408
10+ is nothing impressive desu, i did that when i was like 12 years old with ~5month training, while all my friends had trouble with 1-3. And now they just feel like air when you do them, and its more endurance training than anything else without weights.

Also, for skellies they are increadibly easy to progress with.

I used to be able to do only 2. Then I started doing dumbbell rows 4x8-12 3 times a week for a few months and when I retested I could do 8. Last time I tested, I did 17. But now I just stick with weighted pullups in the 8-12 rep range instead of maxing out on BW ones.
>>
>>35135461

>>
>>35135449
Unless you've done something really special you're doing exactly what I'm saying. To get up to 30 and beyond needs advanced training.
>>
>>35135575
congrats on doing your first real pull-ups, anon.

really try and pull that bar down to your chest.
as far below your chin as you can.

>>
>>35135619
What? you mean 30 kilos or 30 reps? Like i said, i don't train bodyweight chins/pull ups to max. anymore, becouse its endurance training at this point. I just try to do more reps with bigger weights, so i do them like any other lift.
>>
>>35135644
I misread the comment. 50 reps a set is bullshit without very specific training, but you said 50 reps in a workout which is just normal for no weight added desu.

For us what actually lift yeah it's normal and not unheard of but irl most people off the street can't do 1 proper pull up but most reckon they can do several in a row. Same with how they all used to bench or they once squatted the heavens or some shit.
>>
>>35135715
Haha, 50 reps a set would be something different... And yeah, it always makes me grin when someone at the gym starts to talk about his "golden" era of world class lifts.

13 dead hang pullups

I can do pull-ups at 115.

>>
>>35136857
Oh yeah forgot to say, barbell rows will help with lats but I don't know if it will help that much with pull ups. Lat pulldowns are pretty much only thing close to pull ups that I can think of. Close hammer grip on lat pulldown are really nice on lats but that's just how I feel.

Doing a movement purposely slow decreases the amount of fast twitch fiber recruitment and thus leads to lesser gains.

He should do the exercise as fast a he can while not falling into shit momentum form

>>
>>35137111
I just love how everybody says contradicting things when it comes to these things.

No, but seriously, the people I trust with these things usually advise to do exercises slow and deliberately. You want to fatigue your muscles and not impress your PE teacher with a high number of repetitions.
>>
>>35135241
Dips are easier then pullups, simple as that
>>
>>35137128
I like to mix it up, explosive chins one week, controlled the next. I aim for less pullups on controlled days
>>
>>35137128
Paused or slow is a decent kind of progression imo for strength and size. If you want to do quick stuff like clapping pull ups or muscle ups it helps you with coordination and speed and all that like oly lifting does but not strength so much ime
>>
What the fuck, I can do 10 deadhang pullups but I can only do like 3 dips. Maybe I'm just doing them wrong ;_;
>>
>>35137128
Educate yourself upon the topic of slow and fast twitch fiber.

Either you do that or you stay uneducated and working below your potential.

I don't get how people put so much time into lifting and never use their brain to consider it.

Always staying bad at it.
>>
>>35137507
I've never seen any convincing evidence that the differentiation between slow and fast twitch fiber has any relevance to training. Nothing but broscience m8.

Only if you have shit form. Look up good form videos on how to do pull ups properly.

Many people make the mistake of pulling up with mainly their arms, when it should be a combination of the back, shoulders, arms, etc. See if that's something you need fixing
