How do you know when you should bulk? I can never decide and end up in semi cut purgatory.

I currently weigh 90kg at 5ft9 at around 14-15% bf maybe a lil higher

If you can see a 4pack, you can bulk if you want to until the 4pack vanishes, then cut back down to get it again. If you have a predisposition to lower bodyfat then you can bulk when you hit 6pack and cut when you can only see the top 2 abs.

Really easy to bulk/cut just looking in the mirror.

The way to test if you should bulk or cut is with your own body.

Do you have visible abs?

No?

Cut for 12-16 weeks very conservatively.

Get shredded as fuck and then bulk conservatively until you look similar to the pic you posted BUT bigger.

Rinse repeat.

now there is someone who knows nothing about dieting. you can easily cut at 500kcal deficit without even running the risk of losing muscle mass. thats a pound a week.

Easy calculation goes like this: first get a fucking caliper and measure your bf% yourself instead of asking deranged retards that are gonna tell you that you are at 20% bf. Its not that expensive. After you know your bf% you can calculate how much actual fat (lb or kg) is in your body. Since most books say that you can cut around 60kcal per kg of bodyfat you can easily calculate how much you can cut without losing fat.

Example: you weight 90kg and are at 15%bf. That means that you have 13,5kg of fat in your body. 13,5 x 60kcal = 810kcal. This number represents the max abount of calories your body can use from your fat storage per day which is kind of a rough calculation considering a day is a pretty longe time, but it still works out in the long run. If you cut below 810kcal you will lose muscle mass aswell as fat, if you cut above it, say at 300-400kcal you are just wasting time, because you could be losing fat twice as fast.

As for the question whether you should bulk or cut. Noone except you knows the answer. Do you have a specific goal in mind? like a body weight and bf percentage? Or is it simply getting as big as possible? if its the latter I would recommend bulking on. And if you do have a specific goal then you shouldn't be asking random people on the internet about their oppinion about what you should be fucking doing for fucks sake.

No it's not. You want half a lb per week. Your body can only put on 2 lbs of lbm in a month under IDEAL conditions as a natty.
1 lb a week would mean you're gaining half fat, half lbm (once again under ideal conditions, otherwise it'd be more than half fat) and that would make for a longer cut and your bulk will end sooner.

news flash: it is nearly impossible to bulk effectively with 0 fat gain. a 50/50 bulk is the sweet spot, because you provide your body with the necessary nutrition to build the most amout of muscles possible. if you want to gain musscles without gaining fat it is possible, but you won't build musscle as fast as when you eat with a caloric surplus and gain some fat. thats a fact.

you're welcome. As for my personal oppinion I think you should cut for say 2-3 months at previously mentionend caloric deficit that you will have to calculate for yourself. My guess is sth. around 700-800. Be carefull though, because while cutting your bodyfat amout changes and with that changes your max caloric deficit, keep that in mind.

The main reason is that if you keep bulking you will eventually get chubby/fat and that might influence your motivation. Also it will take longer to cut to a low bf% which sucks, because cutting is usually a frustrating period. The only good results you are getting are in the mirror and those develop slowly over time. Your lifts might go down and you might feel weaker, because a caloric deficite means that you will be hungry at times. So from my personal perspective I would recommend a short period of weightloss followed by some more weightgaining even though it sounds counterproductive.
