I have a little bro he's 15 and wants to start lifting with me and I was wondering if I should start him on ss since he wants to play football next year. But I don't know wether weightlifting stunts growth. What do ? I'm fully grown so Idk if this is true.

Arnold started lifting as young as 15 and he's over 6 feet. fuck off troll.

weight lifting does not hinder growth. poor diet does.

I've been doing olympic weightlifting for the past ~10 years under Russian and Russko-pontian coaches.

All young athletes squat.

But I have never seen other tall people squat. I'm the only athlete at my team at 193cm.

My dad is 198cm, my mom is 185cm.

Take from that what you will.

Some of my thoughts on the matter as I was typing this:

Your brother is 15, he's still growing. The time he'll spent squatting, (at most, what, 70-80kg? He's 15.) is ~20 minutes 3 or 4 times a week. A total time of one hour of compression.

And the compression to his spine is not even vertical. In an oly squat, you don't have the bar pressing down on you vertically at all, and not all the time.

Based on that, I think that the effect is less than negligible. I can't provide you with research data on whether or not it has an effect, but I think losing half a centimeter of height is much better than not having a muscular and well-developed body early on.

Good exercise makes kids healthy, and it makes them into socially and physically better adults.
