You haven't seen my autism until you've witnessed me pouring over the footage frame by frame looking for the exact moment of bar movement change, or moment of impact, just so I can put the sound effect in at that exact frame.

lmao, RICE is the biggest tumor on the sport science field.
You want as much blood as possible to get to the joint, and in fact inflaming it is even better. Ice's only benefit is when swelling is TOO MUCH and for PAIN.
so unless the swelling is bad, ice is for pussies,.
Even moreso, you get more IGF-1, GH and those helpful little cells whose job it is to repair in there much quicker. Stop icing your hand. Stretch it, massage it, put heat on it, just not immediately after a workout
Report back.
Only using a trip for accountability on my claim so when it does or doesnt work you can call me out on it.

For anyone that was following my attempt at the Smolov Base Mesocycle, here is my 'test' day.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxqp3U9ctYw

Decided to work up to my second attempt 6 days out from the meet.

Got 540 lbs comfortably (in wraps, lolfed).

Hoping for 570 at the meet on Saturday.

>Review of Smolov Base Meso
Sucked oodles of ass. I would LOVE to run the full 13 weeks, but recovery needs to be on point.

Also, if you don't LOVE lifting, it will mess your brain up.

I made the mistake of trying it right as my son was born. This was stupid :) Sleep wasn't there to recover at my best.

If you love to test your limits, it's an awesome challenge.

I ended up with decent improvements, improved confidence, and an annoying adductor strain (still dealing with it currently).

I ALSO ran Smolov Jr. for bench with a strained pec. No idea where I'm at on that currently, hopefully 365 ish.

I actually found myself missing Deadlift, which was weird. I hate deadlift, but started to really long for it. You CANNOT DL much of anything on Smolov. Too much strain.

Squatting and Benching heavily together puts a lot of strain on your shoulder girdle. Watch your prehab.

In conclusion, I'm going back to daily squatting and autoregulation... but this was fun :)

Could you personally post a video of your own squats for me to compare against? I would appreciate the help :[

>Can you post your ARSE template?
Sure.

After running the attached template for a month or so, I spend a month just setting rep PR's literally every day. 1-10 rep PR's on most everything, no back-off volume.

After that runs it's course, I go back to the template again to build volume. Also, I sometimes substitute variations for the main lifts.

Have fun :)... oops, serious face :[

>Good luck on your meet! How much with the adductor strain affect training?

Thanks, friend.

The strain is just annoying more than anything. It screws my form up until I'm over 75% and properly warmed up.

I will tend to it after the meet. For now, it's manageable.

Pros:
- low volume (good if you are adding lifting to other stuff like sports or a very physical job)
- simple base, easy to modify
- works okay
Cons:
- low volume (bad if you don't need to recover for other stuff)
- low frequency (once per week is generally considered not enough)
- base template isn't really good enough; relies heavily on modifications

TL;DR: it'll do, if you're willing to tweak it.
I think Candito's is better-regarded here, but I can't speak on it, since I haven't tried it.
>>
>>35106147
I feel 5/3/1 is what you make it. If you start at 90% of your 1RM, then you won't be pushing new numbers until after approximately three months - keep this in mind.

Once you become familiar with the program, feel free to customize by adding accessory work and more days if you feel up to it. The template is relatively generic, but I think that the main four day / four week cycle with a 5x10 @ 50% 1RM is a good foundation to add other variations and accessories to.

But I'm a n00b so your mileage may vary. I'm on cycle eight.

So during today's squats for whatever reason I flawed my elbows on the concentric and everything just felt great - tighter, faster etc.

A bit like armeme-ian strength does:

Does anyone know why it felt so good? Not sure if I found this 'one weird trick' or if it was just placebo, or if it's a shit cue and I should stop it.

>The stages were:

>1. General Physical Preparation (GPP)

>The lads thoughts? Is GPP not a real thing? Seems like a kind of meaningless concept tbqh.

Well, both the russian and chinese weightlifters do a lot of "GPP" work such as team sports, cardiovascular activities like swimming, jogging, etc and plenty of exercises you could lump into GPP.

SPP is alive and well.

Sheiko has novice and intermediates playing sports and doing lots of GPP and even more advanced athletes are recommended to have planned time off, during which they focus on GPP and/or rest

Stretch, and stop arching your back so hard. If you brace your abs hard and lock your lats in, you'll get all the arch you need out of "big chest." Go watch the Duffin squat video if you don't know what I'm talking about with the abs and lats. Yes the whole thing, yes all 30 minutes of it.

Ok, back. I'm pretty tired, so I'm pretty much just going to spew the whole thing out and hope it makes sense.
Max Effort: 1-4 rep max, 4*N total backoff reps at 80% of that max (e.g. 3RM@200, then 2x6@160). I started with 3*N, but it wasn't enough.
Dynamic Effort: 1-3 rep sets, starting at 50%, adding ~5% each set, continuing until reps are slow.
In the past couple of months, I've been organizing it in a bodypart split (max effort deadlift Monday, bench Tuesday, squat Wednesday, and press Thursday, then dynamic effort split between Saturday and Sunday). Accessory movements for each lift on the day I do that lift.
My schedule is kind of shitty and unpredictable, so I didn't have a lot of time in each session and had to organize it like that. I was also missing a lot of sessions over the past couple of months... Car accident, wedding, family stuff.
This cycle, I'm trying out doing the backoff sets on a separate day (so ME for all four lifts over Monday and Tuesday, then the backoff sets Wednesday and Thursday, then the dynamic effort on Friday and Saturday).
I have two variations for each lift: incline press, spoto press, front squat, high-bar squat, z press, military press, double-paused deadlifts, and deficit deadlifts.
It's a four-week cycle (three training, one deload), with the weaker variation in the first week, the stronger variation in the second week, and the main lift in the third week. Dynamic effort is always the main lift.
I tried skipping the deload the first time. I was very fatigued by the time I was in week five, and I was completely fucked by the time week six came around. Would not recommend.
Despite all of my missed sessions and other stuff, I'm still hitting PRs on the variations. I haven't been able to test my maxes on the main lifts since I started... Shit just keeps getting in the way. I'm hopeful, though. I was just shy of 3/2/4 before I started. I'm hoping to hit at least the squat and deadlift milestones by the end of the year.

Things we have Learned - A Blog post about Injury management

By Captain Poutine

1: Back injuries will not heal with just a week off what the fuck was I thinking.

2: It's not actually a back injury per se, I am able to locate it now in my upper left glute entirely.

3: The injury does not reduce my pull at all. Was able to easily pull my prescribed 5+ for six, could have grabbed a seventh, and possibly ground an eighth, but I felt the injury getting mad.

4: Form was not a contributing factor in pissing off the injury, but was definitely the initial cause of the injury

5: Myofascial release from PVC rolling and Lacrosse balling immediately relieve the pain. 100% confident this is a muscle injury and not a disc issue.

6: Icing your ass fucking sucks. I'll never be able to use these peas.

>>
>>35107023

I did this in my upper right glute late last year. I felt fucked for over a week. I irritate it every now and then, but exact same symptoms.

Form definitely caused it because I didn't know how to low-bar and squatted without bracing, too much speed, and massive butt-wink.

That was the basis for it, yeah. I've done a lot of tweaking to make it suit me better, so it's a bit different from that.
He had a bunch of wonky or arbitrary stuff in there that I took out or changed, and I didn't want to do lower body lifts heavy once every two weeks (wtf Chad, get it together), so it's been adjusted quite a bit.

Same. I'm trying to structure it so that I'm just adding weight every time I do a variation. It's only ten pounds per month, so it's not too difficult.
I might add another week so I can do more variations. I didn't notice fatigue problems until week five, so I'm wondering if I could stretch it a bit.

Even most first aid protocols list PRICE as being used for immediately after the injury
>>
>>35108536

yes but first aid protocols are for pain management first and foremost and IMO don't really work for muscular injuries, rather better for things like skeletal problems (concussion, break, etc.)
>>
>>35108536
>>35108551

I should amend that - they work, not saying they don't. I'm mostly just asking the guy for a source, anyway
>>
>>35108516

That being said, The "honest PT" is wrong in discounting PRICE. Swelling in muscle injuries and ligament sprains is caused by damaged blood vessels, not the body rushing nutrients or some broscience bullshit. PRICE for the first three days, followed by rest, and rehab is consistently the best approach to sports injuries.

>IMO don't really work for muscular injuries

Not true. When we suffer a muscle injury, the goal is to allow the ruptured vessels to heal as quickly as possible. This is why practically all of PRICE is designed to limit bloodflow to the area, and why after the third day, we begin applying thermotherapy, once those capillaries have had time to heal.
