Most straightforward implant requires a medical grade titanium rod and a skilled specialist to put it in. Either one of those is going to be pricey everywhere. There are also issues with rejection (tho now it's pretty unlikely to happen). Then there's the prosthetic tooth itself. The big issue with a front implant is they're really very thick and usually need some reshaping after installation so as to fit the bite. If you don't get that it can fuck up your jaw. With molar implants this is not an issue really
What you probably had was a bridge or something with the fake tooth stuck on adjacent teeth to fill the gap. A denture is also possible but that's really cheap for a denture.
I recommend a denture over a bridge tho, a bridge can fuck up the teeth it's stuck to.

Firstly he roughly reshaped a prosthetic tooth to fit me on the rest of my shattered tooth, put it on the rod, fit it in and then did the reshaping that would fit my bite, as you mentioned it.
