Is the SS workout a meme?
I'm a skinny(140 pounds 6'1) and want to get more strength. Sticky recomended it, but after further reading it seems not to be legit or something, gets alot of hate.
What's your thoughts?
>>
>yeah, this board I'm on has a sticky for beginners to get started, but I don't think the program sounds good.

Goddammit you're 140lbs and 6'1", literally any type of routine that actually uses a standard rep scheme and some incremental increase in weight for each lift every two weeks or even one week, will help you. I mean, at your build currently, ANYTHING, WILL HELP.

Yes, SS is fine, it's good for beginners and establishes a routine using strength building lifts. Also, fucking eat something.

>Is the SS workout a meme?

No.

>I'm a skinny(140 pounds 6'1) and want to get more strength

Do SS. http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ:The_Program

>gets alot of hate

"SS is a troll" is a meme.
>>
>>35041779
>Is the SS workout a meme?
Yes yes yes. Don't listen to the deluded fucks telling you otherwise.
>>
>>35041779
Run SS for three months, drinking an extra jug of milk every day for about two months.
Eat heavy calorie foods like bread into dipping oil and etc.
>>
>>35041779
It's shit for aesthetics, get on a ppl routine
>>
Do Greyskull lp instead with a few accessories
>>
>>35041830
Yeah, he's obviously got a good strength base right now right?
Fuckin idiot. He doesn't need to worry about aesthetics because he's a goddamm skeleton right now. He needs to build strength and mass, then he can do whatever the fuck he wants. SS is great for someone in his position.
>>
>>35041830
No
>>35041834
This
>>
>>35041843
lol he can do bp, squats and diddlys in a ppl routine, working on his strength but he won't look like shit thanks to the accessories.
>>
>>35041855
you're dumb lmao
>>
>>35041884
Great argument kek
>>
>>35041893
You're advocating someone with literally no base strength to do a hypertrophy routine because """SS make u look like shit lol"... Starting Strength is the better option for a beginner, fuck off clueless cunt, you don't even lift brah.
>>
Eat. Holy fuck your body is disgusting
>>
>>35041830
>get on a ppl routine
Anybody who says this just exposes himself as a goddamn idiot who's just reiterating what he hears everybody else say.

Okay, so you want me to get on a PPL routine? How does the following look?

PUSH
6x1 Dumbbell flye
20x20 Bench press

PULL
3x3 Wide grip lat pulldown
3x3 Straight-arm pulldown
10x10 Hammer curl

LEGS
3x100 Leg extensions.

So how does that look? I just created a PPL routine. Not so fucking great, huh? A PPL setup can work extremely well, but simply saying "PPL" is not a fucking program and it's definitely not something you can just throw at a complete beginner who'll have no clue how to string one together.

The ONLY thing PPL says about how you train is a little hint about how you choose to arrange your exercises throughout the hint, and even then it's really only a hint. I mean, do you do deadlifts on pull day or leg day? Do you do shrugs on push day or pull day, or even leg day? Etc.

STOP saying "PPL" like it means something. It means NOTHING. I can create a super low volume strength oriented PPL program just as well as I can create a high volume hardcore bodybuilding PPL program.
>>
>>35042056
What's a good PPL routine after someone has milked 8 months out of their beginner gains with a program like SS or Greyskull LP?

Or should I just jump to the Texas method and then madcow?
>>
>>35042056
>6x1 dumbbell fly
why do i find this so funny?
>>
>>35042067
Go on the TM.
>>
>>35042056
>dumbell flyes
>not barbell
Shit routine baka desu senpai
>>
>>35042067
Depends on your goals. Like I said, a PPL can look very different, depending on what you're trying to achieve.
>>
SL 5x5 is better
>>
>>35042056
yeah that's just dicking around and being nit picky. everybody knows what PPL means, and google would tell beginners too. no reason to try to shift the definition of something kek
>>
>>35041779
its not a meme, is simply a terrible routine reccomended by people who dont know anything about lifting and its former victims.
Do Jonnie Candito's linear program or Lyle McDonald's generic bulk.
>>
>>35042123
It's a great routine. I'm guessing you didn't read the book.
>>
>>35042113
>everybody knows what PPL means
Well that's the problem. Everybody thinks they know what it means but everybody's idea is factually incorrect.
Maybe I am being nitpicky, but I really do think it's a problem when people for example always assume that a fullbody setup means low volume, strength focused training. It doesn't. The fullbody setup is the most flexible way of training there is. I myself have been training for 5, maybe 6, years and I keep finding myself coming back to fullbody training - But let me tell you, it looks nothing like Starting Strength (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I'm tired of people who make assumptions and link a simple acronym to one particular way of training, when really, a PPL can look so incredibly different it's ridiculous.
>>
>>35042105
Nope
>>
>>35041779
>HI GUYS, IS THE ONLY INFORMATION ON THIS BOARD THAT EVERYONE COULD AGREE ON, IE THE STICKY, A TROLL?
>>
Rate my workout, fit, I started with PPL almost two months ago but am moving to upper lower 4x a week to leave more time for cardio.

Mon - Bench, DB Row, DB Bench, Pullups, DB Press, Cable Row, Chest Press Mch, Lat Pulldown, Lateral Raise Mch, Pec Fly, Rear Delt Fly, Barbell Curl, Hammer Curl, Dips, Overhead Triceps Extensions
Tue - Squat, Leg Press, Leg Curl, Leg Press 2.0, Standing Calves, Seated Calves, Seated Calves 2.0, Hanging Leg Raises, Ab Mch, Decline Crunches
Wed - Rest
Thu - Press, DB Row, DB Press, Pullups, DB Bench, Cable Row, Press Mch, Lat Pulldown, Lateral Raise, Pec Fly, Rear Delt Fly, Barbell Curls, Hammer Curls, Dips, Overhead Triceps Extensions
Fri - Deadlift, Leg Press, Leg Curl, Leg Press 2.0, Calves Standing, Calves Seated, Calves Seated 2.0, Hanging Leg Raises, Ab Machine, Decline Crunches

4x5 for strength lifts like the bench press, squat, press, dl, and db row. 4x8-12 for most after.

Bench has gone from 95 to 145 for reps
Press 60-100
Squat 115-175
DB Row 40-75
DL 135-185

My noob noob gains have been exausted, I dont think I can progress any faster than 5lb a week now, so 5lb a week is what I'll aim for. Good plan? It's a lot of volume but I've done this for almost two weeks and feel fine.
>>
>>35042113
Yeah, google would tell a beginner what PPL means, which would just leave them completely clueless about how to construct such a routine. Even telling a beginner something like "2 horizontal pulls, 2 vertical pulls, 2 bicep/forearm accessories" would leave them clueless as to what exercises fit those criteria. They're beginners, you can't leave stuff up to interpretation.

Then again this is meaningless, cause beginners should do SS.
>>
>>35042183
Beginners like op should do ss.
Beginners who are already athletic and do sports should probably do strong lifts 5x5

But you shouldn't take diet advice from either.
>>
>>35042165
Are those pounds? If that's the case you still have a lot of noob gains in you.
>>
>>35042165

SS is the best, lol, all these fags who look like shit giving advice. They're just mad that they spent 2 years of not getting results doing brosplits, and now after 4 years of lifting they've achieved maybe 1 year worth of gains.

SS is great for putting on mass and getting a good base, i got 1,2,4,4 plates in 7 months of SS, and im on a PPL now and look better after less than a year of lifting than most people do after several years.

Don't get on an advanced routine until you got the fundamentals down.

>>35042925

Agreed. One of my friends is deadlifting 3 pl8s, squatting 2 pl8s, benching 1.5 pl8s and OHP 55kg from 3 months on SS.

And he built a huge amount of muscle in a very short period of time.

People who shit SS are just novices with no idea how things work.
>>
>>35041779
you're super cute. dont change
>>
>>35042123
How can you even claim that others don't know shit about lifting when you recommend a routine with weekly progression to an absolute beginner?
Candito linear is good, but you're wasting a lot of time if you start with it because the progression is slower than what a novice is capable of, it's better if you do it as an advanced novice/early intermediate.
>>
>>35042425
Noob gains, not noob noob gains, except for maybe in DL which I can increas by 10lb a week for a bit.
>>35042458
Just the ultra rapid gains.

I don't know how fast strength progress with this routine will be compared to SS but I enjoy it a hell of a lot more, find strength progress adequate, and have already gotten some comments about my gains. But come on, it's well put together, right? Evenly balanced push pull weekly, vert and hor. Linear progression in first lifts and failure focused lifting after that. Both strength and aesthetics.
>>
>>35041779
Become a fuk boi.
>>
>>35041779
>What's your thoughts?
where's your chest hair kid?
>>
>>35041906
SS will not get you looking good and the whole strength base thing has no basis FOH
>>
>>35045120

you cant easily increase weight doing hypertrophy reps and doing 10kg curls isnt gonna give you big arms
>>
SS is shit for aesthetics. Which is 100% why we lift.

>>
>>35045186
either SS + GOMAD or become a trap.
>>
>>35045186
Op here, I too have petty wide hips and it sucks. I decided to go with greyskull lp, which makes more sense imo. Good luck to you, bruv.
Also this place made me more gay in few days than browsing effay for years.

6'1 isa top height imo. Still feel a bit too tall being 6'3, and gains are harder to come by.

gotta catch 'em all
>>

My willys almost 7 inches and my spine is fine though.
>>
>>35045534
The truth is that SS is a great routine for hungry skeletons who want to put on weight and strength. It's not going to make you look like Greg Plitt and it's not going to get you any girls. But what it does do is put you in a better position for doing whatever routine you choose to do later
>>
>>35042081
Please don't.
>>
>1x5 deadlifts
>Twice per week
>Helpful

How does anyone take this seriously
>>
>>35043457
Is it good routine after SS? Im already on 2nd week SS, my target is 3-4 months even if i'll plateu few times i just cut weight by half and keep progressing
