>>
>what's so good about deadlifts?
Nothing. They're a vanity meme exercise that is awful for building muscle and will damage your back. Only do them if you enjoy calling upon your body to unleash lethal amounts of force as one kinetic chain.
>>
>>35041298
>kinetic chain
lmao

Deads if done properly strengthen the shit out of your back

You obviously have poor form or were out lifted by a girl

Only if you do them overhead.
>>
>>35041288
Assuming this isn't bait, deadlifts are great for a lot of major muscle groups. You could do a variety of exercises and get the same effect, but the idea is it's best to do one compound exercise and then go to the isolation ones after. Also, you can do a lot of weight and make you feel manly as fuck.

This bit of truth right here is a factor that is overlooked all too often. It is absolutely crucial that your training is fun to you, otherwise you'll end up quitting sooner rather that later. You must learn to enjoy the journey as much as the destination (or even moreso), and in order to do that, training must be fun. Simple as that.
>>

They're a good lift, but fucking sumo stance just means you're ego lifting. Fucking do normal feet width, I.e similar to a clean stance, and hook grip it. Christ, bugs me so much when people do shit to put the most weight on instead of actually trying to work on their strength the correct way. Maybe if you were competition tier in the big three, then it's okay, but if not then cut that shit out.

on their own they are kinda useless but they strengthen muscles which help squats, rows, OHP and many other lifts.

My back is always in pain when I do conventional lift, even though when I lift 1pl8 and focusing on form, as I usually do 3pl8s. So I switched to sumo and my back is fine.

Probably nothing.
So far i have seen people claim that big erectors, traps, core, ass and legs are unaesthetic and those are the main muscles involved.
The claim that deadlifting doesn't build mass is a lie, it just builds it in places most people don't care about.
My advice would be to stick to training the muscles you can see in amirror.

Hyper extensions, if you can find somewhere where you can lock your feet in a few feet above ground.

Dumbbell good mornings, if you have DBs.
You could do them with two equally loaded buckets while standing on a box or something.
Buckets are great, you can do pretty much any exercise that you can do with kettle bells, with a loaded bucket.

it is the king of all the lifts

its funny, because i had a fucked back, and fixed it by doing mostly deadlifts.

literally the best thing you can do for your lower back is deadlifts.

just start with babby weight until you know 100% your form is on point every single time, then slowly increase the weight to develop strength.

but there is no better exercise for someone with a bad back to do, than deadlifts.

obviously just don't slap 2pl8 on the bar and start pulling like you know what you are doing

http://www.muscleforlife.com/the-deadlift-and-your-lower-back-harmful-or-helpful/

this link actually cites a few scientific articles, if you are skeptical.

deadlift is the BEST lower-back pre-hab and rehab exercise you can do for yourself
>>
>>35043077
it works the whole posterior chain, but with proper form, you can expect much more hypertrophy on your back than your hammies.

they aren't immune to hypertrophy.
>>

never said theyre immune, but hamstrings are what actually lift the weight alongside with traps. sure the back will grow too but i see no reason why it would grow more than hamstrings

protip: if you feel it in your back during or after DLs you're not using proper form.
If using proper form you'll feel it on your hamstrings.
>>
>>35043330

Not lifting heavy enough, I see. After you hit 4plate for reps, it hurts mostly everywhere.

I want to get back into deadlifting again but the plates at my new gym aren't as big as my old gyms plates.
The bar only comes up to just above where the foot connects to the ankle, this makes it pretty difficult for me to keep my back straight.

I've tried placing plates underneath on both sides but it doesn't help since it constantly rolls off and adding/subtracting weights is a huge pain.

The power rack is only half of one so I'm unable to put the safeties low enough to fix the height issue.

Do I eat a spoonful of concrete to harden the fuck up or do you guys know of any ways to raise that bar a little more?
>>
>>35043226
>>35043244

I'll also support this. All the men in my family have back issues. Deadlifting began to help it literally the day after I first started them.

I used to pull conventional but I realised that since I'm not gonna compete in memelifting the chance of snaping my shit for no reason wasn't worth it, so now I do SLDL and RDL on variation days and it's been great.

Just do what suits your goals, not what a bunch of faggots tells you to do because of MUH DIDDLIY
>>
>>35048595
RDL's are great, and should generally be used instead of deadlifts for people not competing. Works your hamstrings and lower back with a much lower chance of snapping your shit up.
>>
Deadlifts are good but some people either lack the hamstring flexibility or the proportions to do them correctly. If the former, do lots of stretching and stiff legged deadlifts. If the latter, make them a rack pull by lifting off blocks.

Also, you don't need deadlifts if you can do high enough weight/reps of alternatives like romanian deads.

Fuckin' a. I have had upper back issues with posture and uncomfortable seating (6'4"), but my lower back has never felt so strong and aligned before and I've been 4pl8'ing for a couple months now.

Due to the fact that it activates more muscle groups than any other lift, it also releases a large amount of testosterone, which makes you feel like a boss.

Do dl right with good form and it's simply the best thing you can do for yourself.

Its funny, because in powerlifting you can practically determine off the bat whether someone is short or tall (or realistically, whether they're light or heavy, because weight classes are just height classes in disguise) by their preferred deadlift style. Sumo dominates the lighter weight classes, but it gets rarer and rarer the higher up you go.

What do ya know, a trip with zero good advice and just shit posts. Unless you really just cannot pull conventional because of physiological issues, sumo pulling is literally to boost your ego by slamming more weight on. Less ROM, doesn't engage muscles as long, and often time it's people with trash form doing it. If conventional hurts, then most likely its your shit form, you don't just fucking switch to a style with more leverage to escape the fact you're doing it wrong. And also, judging how you keep bringing up numbers, it directly implies that you're the memelord who'll fucking cat back a pull just to say he did xxx weight; this can transfer over to you being a goddamn moron.

>doesn't engage muscles as long
thank you dr broscience, you will often have longer time under tension because of the difficulty of breaking off the floor before the quick lockout

> and often time it's people with trash form doing it

this is quite literally the opposite of the truth cause conventional is much easier to round over on

>switch to a style with more leverage

this completely depends on your body proportions

>memelord who'll fucking cat back a pull just to say he did xxx weight

fraid not son, last PR was 200 at 69BW obviously there was some form degredation being as it was a max effort pull but the lumbar rounding was minimal with t spine rounding but that doesnt really hurt you, just makes it look ugly

go ahead bud post your perfect form 100% ROM IRYNLYFE deadlift max and throw your lifts in the ring there

just in referance heres the pull at the highest point of rounding even then my lumbar is not too rounded over and im not crumpling over too badly at the waist, t spine rounding is pretty significant but again its not gonna hurt you really

Can someone explain why this broscience sounds legit? It feels natural to assume more muscles used = more power generated
