well the Russians seem to think that if you can snatch properly, learning to clean properly is much easier. I'm inclined to agree. Also I think snatch is better for developing overall explosiveness. If you don't want to clean or jerk because you can't manage fatigue for it then yeah just stick with snatch I guess

How did lifting go /owg/?

pretty shit 4me, don't know what I expected though.
no classics for 3 weeks, foot pain, and sick, plus raped lats yesterday so kept losing back tightness
at least snatches were OK up to 65% kek

gonna do some hang work and high volume squats tomorrow to get full extension and volume capacity back up, hopefully I get over this cold and stop shitting 3x/day

These are ranked highest to lowest and separated into several sessions of roughly the same number of lifters each (8-10 or so)
A has the top totals, then B, etc.

Should be more like 125
Work on legs more, 85 x 3 is plenty of overhead strength. 85 is my 1rm press for reference but I can jerk 140 consistently
Don't worry so much about the numbers in the classic lifts now so much as technique. Post a video if you can

If front rack is difficult you may have some shoulder/elbow/tspine mobility issues you'll want to address

It's not really 3 consecutive years of working hard with a coach, there's probably a year of downtime in there where I either wasn't lifting at all or getting back into things at a commercial gym. I started at a good club about three months ago and I'm already hitting lifetime prs and I hadn't lifted for three months before starting

I haven't been working on anything whatsoever, been concentrating really hard on PL.

just randomly got the gumption to try a snatch today and realized I had made significant improvement with extention timing. still trash of course, but major improvement as opposed to before.

The overhead squat was really, really easy compared to before. I think my understanding of where knees need to be made the most difference? idk.

Also curious, should i be pointing my feet / knees farther out? making my stance wider for this? anything?

Start with your hips lower, keep your back tighter and your chest up. Looks like your weight is moving forward, your feet should land slightly behind where they started.

Lower the weight and at least try to catch in the bottom position rather than doing power snatches.

Youre inflexible like others pointed out. You look unsteady all throughout your lifts, your snatch position is pretty weird but could be difficult if youre taller so i can onderstand that.
I recommend you read/watch some basic introduction video's and start from there. I also recommend you start stretching daily, or atleast every day you work out. A good stretching routine takes me around 15-20 minutes.

there are two types of muscle snatches, one is the one he's referencing which is also called no hook no touch (and sometimes no feet), and then another one that is a little different:

I like both. Once you learn that you're not ever meant to move hips into the bar, but rather extend and let your hips do what they want to do naturally, it makes the learning curve MUCH easier

I think it's pretty important to reduce weight to what you can do with perfect form sometimes and pretend that is your 1RM. Stops the ugly stuff happening

Besides the obvious tightness.

Start with your hips lower, keep your hips lower throught the lift. Extend UP more. Get tall!

Thinking about driving through your heels from the ground might help keep your hips lower.

Don't listen to the negative talk. We all started somewhere and come into the sport with different strengths (not saying you're changing over). You would powersnatch more than 95% of /owg/ could snatch if you dedicated 4 months to learning the basics from a good coach

It's a lot harder without a coach, we can't all be clarence.

Just work on a few basics points that have been mentioned and improve mobility, get comfy in the bottom of an overhead squat, that way a coach will have something to work with if you ever go to one.

yeah so essentially by forcing yourself not to touch the bar with hips you'll
a) not send it swinging outward through hip contact
b) focus on pulling your elbows high and yourself under the bar

the only way I can really put it is that when you snatch, your shoulders need to be internally rotated hard, upper arms perpendicular with the floor, and the bar passing close to your face. Try hang snatching light weight with only a tiny hip crease, instead focusing on pulling the bar up.

Let me reiterate that - in the snatch, you pull the bar straight up. By exerting upward pressure on the bar, you're exerting downward pressure on your body. One cue that sometimes help is to think 'pull forever'. Like you delay explosion as the bar travels up, up up until it is just below the hip pocket. Then, you pull the bar up as aggressively as you can thinking of your hips as moving upward, not forward. As you are pulling the bar up aggressively, you don't let yourself stop pulling the bar up, you keep doing it and let your body go down accordingly. As in, you delay going under the bar as long as you can keep exerting upward pressure on the bar. As you improve it becomes synergistic and your transition becomes nearly instant. I've thought about this a lot. Do those no touch snatches, focusing on pulling yourself under, and all will become clear after a few sessions

How do I avoid this? This is literally my biggest fear when it comes to lifting - struggling to advance my lifts for years with nothing to show for it.

I'm more than abit above the 1,2,3,4 plaet respectively in the big 4 and barely escaping DYEL mode.

Pull ups and rows are accessories.

Yeah you got the basics. Dont forget front squatting more than back squatting.

Also avoid deadlifts. Will hinder your recovery, so will bench.

3 days lifting is good for beginners.
