Imperial graduate here. Why do you want to go there specifically? It's a great uni in terms of education but they work you far harder than they need to because of a "we want to be better than Oxbridge" complex, there's only science and engineering degrees thus it's majority male, mostly posh home counties conservative people who just want to go into banking. If you're like that, go for it, but if not you'll probably have more fun and meet better people at UCL.

I'm not sure how much more difficult it is for foreign student but my classmates all insist that they had to work harder to get in. Your english is unlikely to get in the way, they only care about whether you can get through the material. I would say in my opinion that it wouldn't be much harder.

Surely you've noticed how much of a career boost going to imperial is? You have a massive advantage. You're pretty much guaranteed an interview for any job you apply for and will get preferential treatment.
If you're willing to put some effort in you can also easily get into investment banking or consultancy.
I do agree with your last point though. Loads of people drop out or spend their time at imperial being unhappy. If you're looking for a social life or you're not good at independent learning, go somewhere else.

Getting into UVa is the least of your worries. Applying to majors, individual colleges, and clubs is even more exclusive.
Theres no real sense of community. People go actively out of their way to not acknowledge you.
Professors do care about you, thats a bright spot.
Current Third-year in the college. Best advice: go to a fun big school or small school (whichever you prefer) and have the time of your life. No one cares about undergraduate, Gradschool is how you actually do things.
