I think sewing a strap onto a jacket is much easier than attaching a small metal hook perpendicular to a thin piece of leather, really. They seem like they're sewn into the sleeve/shoulder joint, similar to the old internal carrying straps. So I think it's safe.

as someone in a similar position as those kids, it's not necessarily as bad as you're outlining. I grew up very wealthy (still growing up, I'm 17 rn) and my parents never 'spoiled' me. Obviously I had a lot more privilege than other kids, went to a private highschool (not elementary though, when to a NY public school and had to get into highschool on my own merit) lived in a nice house and whatnot but everything outside of school / food / VERY basic clothing I was on my own. What I want to remind people of, is a sense of perspective: Everyone has some kind of value for any given item. When you spend resources on something that is of negligible value to you, you miss the opportunity to spend them on something really useful (to someone else). Ultimately, we all live in a global society, and the wealth of the individual is tied to the wealth of the whole.
Only because you have money, you shouldn't throw it away. Money is also responsibility. Of course, if you appreciate fashion, spend your money in good conscience. Live a happy and content life, and at some point you will give back to society, even without planning to. However, 14 year old kids (typically) cannot appreciate fashion. By buying them expensive clothes you can only teach them brand loyalty and/or boasting with money - both are despicable traits.
I hope you see my point. I don't hate fashion buyers, and I don't have a bleeding heart for the 3rd world - albeit I believe we ought to do more. I just want to live capitalism in a good way.
