For anyone looking for fragrance suggestions, give as much information as possible about what you want. Helpful info could include gender, price range, climate/season, need (work/clubbing/etc.), notes/families you like/dislike, and other perfumes you've tried and liked/disliked.

Fragrancenet for lowest prices on designer and common niche brands. Beautyspin for better niche selection and more available testers / newer product. Beautyspin ships faster but Fragrancenet has a lower price threshold for free shipping ($60 vs $100). Ebay from reputable sellers (feedback above 1k).

Lalique Encre Noir Sport - $25
woody, aquatic, citrus
Smells like sitting on lightly damp earth in the shade of a breezy seaside citrus grove. Will hook you on vetiver. And look at that inkpot-shaped bottle / black-blue juice. Can't name a better quality-for-price fragrance.

Rasasi Al Wisam Day - $37
bergamot, sandalwood, florals, musk
Cool and refreshing. Somewhat Oriental due to rose in its heart, but safe and not too flowery. Plastic outer bottle housing (the flacon itself is glass) and brown juice are kind of odd but the value is in the scent / performance.

All right, L'Artisan shill, you did it. I copped pic related for $53 blind off of fragnet. Seems like my sort of thing - offbeat unisex fruity aromatic. Will see how it works out in about a week.
>>
How risky of a blind buy is CDG 2? After something quite unique and heard so many good things about it... Also does it work well in summer?
>>
>>11343392
Anything's a risky blind buy, it's certainly not universal enough like Cool Water of Acqua Di Gio to be a decent blind buy. It's absolutely my favorite from the house.

It's good in the summer, but definitely not as okay as it would be for Spring/Fall. But it can work, would limit in the Summer, but yes can be worn.
>>
>>11343392
Don't. I did and it ended up smelling like old people because of all the aldehydes the fragrance has.

I got lucky and swapped it for decants of Tuscan Leather and Oud Wood (the guy was generous and his wife hated them).

Is $82 a ripoff for Versace Pour Homme?

I kept putting off buying it even though I want it so I decided to pick it up while it was in front of me at the store. If I can get it for more than $10 less online (including shipping) then I'll probably return it.

Does google not work for you or something? Or Amazon? It's a lot cheaper on line. You paid retail, which is fine. Somebody has to. Assuming the store you got it from is an authorized retailer, you can 100% rest assured you did not purchase a counterfeit.

What are your current collections like? Do you guys tend to stick with one fragrance per season or continuously switch? Got burgled a couple of months ago and lost most of my collection, decided to get 4 main ones Summer day/special occasions and Winter day/special occasions

Tropics, so weather wise it's hot, less hot, or raining out. Add that to time of day and situation and that's pretty much what I try to cover in frag diversity.

As to the number, let's just say I can smell different every day for more than a month. All full bottles too, so I'm pretty much set for the next 3-5 years.

Your place got robbed and they stole your frags? That's cold. I'm guessing they must have felt like they had a lot of time in your pad.

Anyway, collection out of control. I rarely wear frags that I love more than once every couple weeks at a minimum, but there are many I almost never wear. Really need to pare down.

As far as a recommend, I'm only familiar with EdB, so I don't really have a good handle on your tastes, but I'd happily wear these on a summer special occasion:

Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentrée
Dior Homme Cologne (old version. haven't smelled the new one)
Encre Noire Sport
Havana
Kouros
Guerlain Vetiver

Fan of the J. Peterman Company 1903 vintage cologne - The report said: an “old woody fougère.” Clean citrus notes, bergamot, “green notes.” The middle notes: clary sage, cardamom. The dry-down: leather notes, smoky labdanum… elemi, tabac, frankincense.

Some Bonds are unique while others are entries in an established genre. Bleecker Street, Chinatown, Wall Street, and Shelter Island are some of the more distinctive Bond frags in my collection. I mostly appreciate the quality and longevity of their perfume.

In between the Creeds and TdH are Guerlain Homme L'Eau Boisée, Guerlain Vetiver, and Voyage d'Hermes.

>>11349927
Fahrenheit (recent formulation) 8/10 airy leathery floral violet goodness. Light enough to wear even in summer without choking out others. Excellent projection, leaves a heavy trail. Lasts at least 8hours. Distinctive and instantly recognizable for almost thirty years running.
Aqua Fahrenheit 10/10, personal top five fragrance, even better than original Fahrenheit. Design concept of "let's drop the violet and leather Fahrenheit heart into a citrus aromatic semi-Cologne". Perfect for me as I love vetiver and citrus and Fahrenheit. Also the start of Dior's obsession with producing Cologne versions of every fragrance. They even allow the sprayer to unscrew for splash application like traditional colognes. Aqua reminds me of vintage 90's Fahrenheit, which was more herbal than the current blend. It's possibly slated to be discontinued in favor of the new Fahrenheit Cologne. I bought a backup bottle just in case.

>>11348940
I haven't tried TFTL personally so I can't say how close the two fragrances are, but LY matches the quality of the "normal" Tom Ford line at least. I was impressed enough that I later blind bought Al Wisam Day.
As for Insurrection, think of it as "CK clones Creed". The scent gets closer to Aventus than CDNI does - I can detect pineapple and apple rather than CDNI's harsh lemon. The birch is soft and pleasant. For scent matching I give them an 80/100, but it's ultimately subpar product. No blackcurrant, certainly no Ambergris. I can't even recommend it at $25 because there are real frags at that price that deserve your attention (GV, ENS).

H-heh... why must you ask such difficult questions?

I had the CKs and some of the designer stuff for a few years and initially stopped collecting at around 15 cheap bottles. Then I picked up a Bond on a whim and started researching better fragrance than I was used to. That led me to check on /frag/ and shit got stupid since like Feb.

How close is Purple Label to Bleecker Street?
>>
>>11350515
It just smells fresh, nothing too special about it.

It's unisex, my gf has it.
>>
>>11351015
They share a berry-thyme top, but go in very different directions from there. Purple Label is dry and herbal. Bleecker Street is juicy and sweet, almost gourmand.

I view BS as more unique and special than PL. You'd only want PL if BS is somehow too fruity for you. Also, PL has Ralph Lauren longevity (3 hours) and is not available on the gray market, making it a relatively poor value.
>>
>>11350286
I think the only one of those that I've liked is Bleecker Street, and even then not enough to actually buy it.

What's the longevity like on Aqua? I used to love 90s Fahrenheit but the later forumlations haven't really done a lot of me
>>
>>11350775
Hey no worries, you're helping me feel better about my self-control—I find that buying can be a bit more fun than owning, so I know that feel. But if you're enjoying it and can still eat and pay the rent, well fuck it why not?
>>
>>11348931
how is ck shock?
>>
>>11350121
It's more woody than Sauvage. That birch tar does it for me.

Maybe Terre d'Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche?
>>
>>11351905
Very good value on a unique fall/winter tobacco fragrance. I say Shock smells like a cherry Swisher cigar mixed with Monster energy drink. It comes across as youthful though not necessarily immature, and nobody would ever guess that it is so cheap. I use it for occasions where Versace Man (purple) feels too old and La Yuqawam is too expensive.

Top three Calvin Klein scent, one of the few with decent longevity (maybe 4 hours of projection and 4 more on skin). At $19 for 200 ml (fragnet), you can use it freely as a linen / clothes spray. It lasts forever on fabric. The same is true of all the CK frags. My bed always smells of CK One because why not?

>>11351444
>buying can be a bit more fun than owning
let's not discount the fun in owning, but yeah the research and the shopping online and the occasional visit to the local fragrance stores all count as entertainment for me. There are worse hobbies to have.

>>11352173
>yeah the research and... the occasional visit to the local fragrance stores all count as entertainment for me
same

eventually i want to start making my own fragrances, but the raw materials seem too big of an investment for a hobby, plus the sheer waste that goes into the trial & error of getting the balance right and fine tuning, and that's after the waste made in creating something that actually smells good
>>
>>11348940
To me Fire Island smells primarily of tuberose and musk. It's hard to shake the suntan lotion connection once you've heard it, but it's a very deluxe smelling suntan lotion.

I'm sure some Demeter fragrances are fine for daily wear, especially if you're into minimalism. It could be novel to smell like "thunderstorm" on rainy days. Quality is fine but longevity is brief. I can't speak for the other brands you named.
>>
>>11352516

All 3 of them suffered from the same problems for me, longevity and silage are godawful. CdG has some great scents in my view Amazinggreen, Sugi and DSM have been ones I've seriously considered getting and would have if it wasn't for their godawful longevity and silage. There's supposedly a lot of cross over between Demeter and CB due to the founders being involved in both from what I know.

Do you guys always get the biggest bottle possible? I always get the biggest, usually 200ml/6.7oz, for classic scents like Terre d'Hermes and Tobacco Vanille. Getting a smaller bottle seems so overpriced.
>>
>>11356166
If you have a small collection, that's the way to go. If you have enough frags that a 100ml will spoil before you finish it, then smaller amounts = more variety is the way to go.
>>
>>11356191
Will spoil? Fragrances lasts 4-7 years depending on the percentage of essential oils. I currently own about twelve fragrances of which ten are 200ml. Use fragrances about six times a week.
>>
I would like to pick up Terre D'Hermes, by Hermes, to wear as an everyday fragrance. Am I better off with EDT, EDP, or parfum? They also make it in deodorant sticks and body spray. I don't want it to be overpowering but I'd like something I could put on daily after my routine so that I would smell nice throughout the day.
>>
>>11356202
Some are more volatile than others so my personal estimate is 3 years. I have around 30-40 bottles now, with some getting hardly any use (<10ml in 6 months).
>>
>>11356221

Have you tested it first?
>>
>>11356288
Has anyone here actually had a bottle of perfume go bad? I'm optimistic that my frags will last for a decade because people go vintage perfume hunting at estate sales and find unspoiled bottles. If you are really worried something is going to spoil, you could sell decants online or gift decants to family.
>>
>>11356166
Gonna have to go with >>11356191 and say as much as it bothers me to be paying much more $/ml, I always get the smallest size possible. I'll never come close to finishing even that size, and shelf space is at a premium, so it would just be silly to get the bigger bottle.
>>
>>11356221
As far as TdH fragrances go, there are only two strengths: the EdT and the "Pure Perfume" EdP. I love both, but find the EdT to be more dynamic so I prefer that. Haven't tried the deodorant spray or stick.

I'm a big fan of him and own quite a lot of his stuff albeit samples and the fragrance wardrobe. The only two bottles I own is Oud and Aqua Vitae--both autographed when he made a visit to my city.

He gets my co-sign.

i just threw away an old, old bottle of clinique happy for men, but i blame the cheap bottle mainly.

anyways, people sell 20+ year old bottles of perfume. kept away from heat and light, you're pretty much good for life
>>
>>11356730
Just go for common crowdpleasers, nothing too heavy. Most fragrances will wear off after a while if you're wearing it on the skin while clubbing or partying due to sweat, stronger smells starting to override them etc. If you really want it to last then spray some on your clothes but extremely carefully since if you live anywhere where smoking is prevalent then that can backfire really badly at times.

So far pretty much settled for Fahrenheit, albeit kinda disappointed with the modern version, with less of a gasoline smell. Also because fuck it, I love the bottle. Kinda hesitating with Antaeus too. Been advised Sauvage, it smelled incredibly generic and unworthy of Dior, also Johnny Depp is a cuck.

Can only settle for one, because I'll be travelling around a lot and can't really carry a dozen bottles with me.

On another note, I've been recently blown by Axe Peace (as much as someone can be blown by Axe body spray), it smells surprisingly similar to Fahrenheit, albeit the smell quickly dies and turns into rather generic yet decent musc. If you want Fahrenheit on the cheap, go for it, it's alright.

>I like the sample more than the frag
Does this happen to anyone else? I bought the frag local on sale, so I just went back to the store and returned it, and I'm going to buy the other one online (YSL L'homme, if anyone is curious).

Anyways, since I'm going to buy it online I figured I'd pick up a few samples to go with it since it shouldn't add to shipping (I don't think 2 or 3 samples would add enough weight to advance the shipping). So when it says "vial" for 1.99, is that the sampler for a fragrance? Because there's also a "mini" option for 8.99, and I'm hoping that I'm not about to buy "vial" and literally just get a vial for putting my frags in.

How weird would it be wearing a fragance of something nobody has scent before?
I live in a tropical country and a lot of fragances have tones we never scented, types of trees mainly, but have an idea of how it should smell like.

>>

Good deodorants/antiperspirants? It's getting hot and i'm sweating more and more especially in the pit area, what are good deodorants to stop my sweaty pits blocking out my perfume?
>>
>>11365884
I just use classic old spice (dry, not wet). Just got back from playing basketball for an hour and a half and my pits smell fine (though I'm sweating like a pig, that can't be helped).

At the moment I'm using like their standard one. It's called "High Sport" or something like that.

Honestly I don't think it matters what brand, but get something that's labelled as anti-perspirant, not just deodorant. I also recommend something that's advertised as "sporty", because it doesn't really matter if you're not going to be exercising, there's literally no downside in getting a deodorant that's geared towards a more active lifestyle.

Fahrenheit is nice, but Aqua Fahrenheit is better. Especially if you're new to fragrance and don't already have 25 years' expectations of what Fahrenheit should smell like.

Let's say that if you enjoy sticking things up your alley, Versace Eros might have been specifically designed for and marketed to you.

Sure, and sometimes the opening band is better than the headliner... Vial is typically a sample. Can be a straight up tube you need to dab on, or one with a spray atomizer. They should state the capacity. Typically 0.7 to 2ml. A mini is a miniature bottle of the fragrance, typically 4 to 15ml.

But I don't know what vendor you're talking about. So don't blame me if you get an empty vial...

because it's super generic and the longevity is close to 0
My friend got it from his ex and uses it as a bathroom freshener after he has taken a big dump

Sweat ≠ body odor. Sweat + bacteria + time = BO.

That said, broscience says antiperspirants are bad because of the aluminum chlorohydrate, but I've heard compelling arguments that that's BS. I err on the side of caution, so most days I use Trader Joe's Cotton unscented "natural" deodorant. (Just learned it was discontinued, so I'm looking for a replacement) But on days where I don't want to have sweaty pits, nothing beats Mitchum unscented gel antiperspirant for me. Lasts for days.

"Sport," like frags, refers to the scent. I prefer unscented so there is no competition between frags, but I'd guess most deodorant scents aren't too strong...

Hopefully in CA, like your neighbor to the south, high end stores like Saks, Barneys, love to hand out samples of stuff. If you're in the boonies, you can try to ask houses to mail you samples. There are many threads at Basenotes about doing that.

>bad because of the aluminum chlorohydrate, but I've heard compelling arguments that that's BS
the accusations that its carcinogenic is mostly BS, but it's a known fact that build up of that over time stains shirts.

just don't cake that shit on (you shouldn't be doing more than three passes with your deo regardless under your arm anyway) and do laundry regularly and it should be alright

aluminum chlorohydrate is actually bad for you, just look it up... its the reason why i dont use deodorant or antiperspirant myself

I've heard people argue that Fahrenheit is better than Aqua F, so I'm not too sure. What makes Aqua better?

oh ok

I think it smells amazing, just really really girly though. I wear it because I personally enjoy the smell, but I'm self aware that others may think I'm flamboyant for wearing it.

There have been very few scents I've truly hated, Eros is one of them. To me it smells like something a cheap hooker would wear.

Whats wrong with me if I cant tell much difference in quality between Old Spice and some much more expansive fragrances? I assume women can tell, either that or I am overpaying.

Yeah we have some higher end shops and average dept stores. I don't think a bunch have stuff I'm looking for though, maybe I'll just stick to living online and doing decants (when I actually have some fucking money)
